Family Practice
We see patients by referral from the Physician Group of Capital Health Plan,Â as well as Capital Health Plan members whose primary care physicians serve in the Family Medicine Residency program at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare. Initial consultations typically take less than two weeks from the time of referral and are affordable for the patient because we collect only a primary care copayment.Â

Colonoscopy
Colon screening participation is easier than ever. With a stool testing kit, you can collect your sample at home and return it by mail, or deliver it to one of our Capital Health Plan Health Centers. For the test, only one small sample of stool is required and there are no dietary or medication restrictions. Afterwards, the test result is mailed directly to you. However, a visual exam of the colon (i.e. flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy) may be required for further testing. The benefit of having a flexible sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy as compared to other screening methods is that precancerous growths can be painlessly removed during the exam, before cancer cells develop, therefore preventing colon cancer from occurring. Colorectal cancer is a cancer of the large intestine or rectum, and it is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. The primary goals of colon screening are to prevent cancer from occurring in the first place if possible and to detect colon cancer early, when there are better treatment options. Medical necessity also refers to a decision by CHP that your treatment, test, or procedure is necessary for your health or to treat a diagnosed medical problem. CHP will not pay for healthcare services that our review physicians deem to be not medically necessary. The most common example is a cosmetic procedure, such as the injection of medications (such as Botox) to decrease facial wrinkles or tummy-tuck surgery. CHP also will not cover procedures that our review physicians determine to be experimental, or not proven to work.
