Urology
Katie Zahour is a board-certified Adult Nurse Practitioner at Northwest Vein & Aesthetic Center. She brings nearly a decade experience in a wide breadth of disciplines including Cardiology, Bariatric Surgery, Urology, and Exercise Science. Katie is a practicing Exercise Physiologist who loves teaching fitness classes when she is out of the clinic. Katie is a native of Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin La-Crosse where she earned a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology. She also received an Adult Nurse Practitioner degree at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing in Nashville, Tennessee. Katie has lived all over the U.S. but decided to live in the Pacific Northwest specifically for the rainy cooler climate. Prior to joining Northwest Vein & Aesthetic Center, Katie worked as a Nurse Practitioner in the surgical department at Multicare where her duties involved care for patients both in the operating theatre as well as in the outpatient clinic. Outside of work, Katie enjoys reading romance novels, spending time with friends, and, of course, exercising.

Ultrasound
Northwest Vein & Aesthetic Center is an IAC accredited facility for vascular diagnostics and treatment. We offer several vascular ultrasound scans for comprehensive and thorough examination of all vascular conditions. Our Registered Vascular Technologists perform all scans in our Gig Harbor Tacoma office.

General Surgery
Dr. Kim is a Vascular Surgeon at Northwest Vein & Aesthetic Center. He is fellowship trained and board certified in vascular surgery, general surgery and venous medicine. He holds a special interest in the minimally invasive treatment of venous disease. Dr. Kim studied medicine in the U.S. and England, completed a fellowship in Vascular & Endovascular Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic and a General Surgery residency at the University of Southern California where he was Chief Resident of Los Angeles County General Hospital. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Society for Vascular Surgery. In his spare time, Dr. Kim enjoys car detailing, arranging family get-togethers, and cycling/hiking/hanging with his wife Airine!
Wound Care
Our board-certified surgeons successfully treat venous ulcers with a comprehensive approach to correct the underlying problem of leakage in the veins (venous reflux) and help to heal the active wound on the skin surface with a regimen of wound care, compression therapy and medication. Conservative measures alone, such as wound care and compression, cannot heal venous stasis ulcers for the long term. Treatment of venous reflux disease is necessary to bring complete relief to the pain, debilitation and appearance of venous ulcers. Upon consultation and a thorough, non-invasive evaluation of the deep and superficial vein systems, we can understand your circulation and determine which veins are culprit. This allows our vascular specialists to decide how to best treat the problem veins. Non-surgical thermal therapies bring relief quickly as they help to re-direct blood flow away from the affected area, correcting the leakage in the veins. Patients note continuous improvement in how their legs feel after treatment and will see resolution of open sores and related skin changes and discoloration over time. We generally avoid surgical intervention, such as stripping and endoscopic perforator ligation (SEPS).
Neurosurgery
VenaSeal technology uses cyanoacrylate, a highly cohesive medical adhesive, that has widespread medical applications over the course of the last 50+ years (even in neurosurgery!), and has been specially formulated for vascular use.
Gangrene
Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) affects about 8 million Americans. PAD is a disease that affects the peripheral arteries, most commonly in the legs. Blockages in the arteries that feed the legs cause pain due to insufficient blood flow. These blockages are caused by atheroslcerosis (plaque) attached to the arterial walls. The most common symptoms of PAD include pain in the leg(s) that increases with walking (intermittent claudication) and/or constant pain in the leg(s) that is relieved by dangling the foot (rest pain). Only about 10% of patients with PAD experience the classic symptoms of intermittent claudication, while 40% of patients complain of no symptoms at all. The remaining 50% of patients with PAD complain of a variety of leg symptoms different from the classic signs of claudication. If left untreated, this lack of blood flow can cause ischemic ulcers, gangrene, and can ultimately end in the affected leg being amputated. Even more cause for alarm is the fact that PAD is an indicator of systemic atherosclerotic disease that is building in other arteries in the body as well. If this atherosclerosis is building in the coronary arteries of the heart or the carotid arteries that feed the brain, this can lead to a heart attack or stroke.
