Overall
The final impression lasts forever

I was scheduled for surgery at Edward Hospital. The pre-surgery interview went well, the admission process and the wait before surgery was pleasant. The surgery was late because Dr. Ronjon Paul went for something to eat when the scheduled time arrived. Post surgery was handled very nicely, the nurses and aids on the 5th floor, with exception, were very efficient. Now the horror - surgery was performed on 12/06/07. At 7:15 PM, 12/07/07 I was informed that I was being discharged. I was given 3 minutes to dress and gather my belongings. Not being accustomed to wearing a neck brace, I exceeded the 3 minute limit which upset nurse Barb. Nurse Barb, the PM nurse on duty was very abrupt, and down right uncaring. When asked questions about changing the dressing on the incision I was given one word answers, "daily" and "gauze". She rushed through the discharge papers and was upset when I was not finished dressing in the 3 minutes allotted. Two young girls came to the room to remove my things before I was finished packing. They hovered outside the room door like vultures. Nurse Barb gave me the 'bum's rush' to get out. It is now 5 days since surgery and no one has called to ask how I'm doing or to follow-up after the surgery. I was to leave the hospital with a walking cane, per the therapist. I called nurse Barb after I arrived at home and she told me to go to the store and buy one. This was 9 PM - the day after major surgery. Lastly, nurse Sara, the day nurse for 12/07/07 - never came into the room after introducing herself. At 2:30 PM, when an aid came in the room, I asked about lunch. At 6:30 PM I had to ask about dinner. If it weren't for the aids and volunteers and general staff, Edward Hospital would be no better than the free clinics one hears horror stories about.
