Dental Examination

Teeth Cleaning
Regular dental cleanings, performed by a registered dental hygienist, are a crucial part of preventive dental care. Your dental hygienist will utilize manual instruments to scale away moderate plaque and tartar buildup, or an ultrasonic device to scale away heavier buildup. Dental Sealants
Sealants are a plastic coating placed on the chewing surface of teeth to prevent decay from forming in the grooves of the teeth. Ideally, they are placed on the permanent first molars which usually come in around age 6. This is the perfect time to protect these crucial teeth since children don't brush well and their diets sometimes leave a lot to be desired. Most insurance plans cover sealants at 100%.

Fillings
Resin Composite
Fillings. We will remove all areas of decay, and replace with a filling made of a silver alloy (amalgam) or composite resin. Composite resin fillings have surged in popularity because their appearance matches the natural appearance of teeth. Dr. Laurie would be happy to discuss the pros and cons of silver vs. tooth-colored fillings.
Veneers
Customized, wafer-thin veneers (also called porcelain laminates) are cemented onto the front of the tooth, resulting in a natural appearance that covers any irregularities or aesthetic concerns.
Crowns
At the risk of sounding like a cliche, Dr. Laurie lives by the golden rule. As an example, she has some rather large, old silver fillings in her teeth. She neither wants them changed to white fillings nor does she want crowns on those teeth. And she would never try to talk a patient into such things if she felt it wasn't necessary. And when she tells a tearful child that she wouldn't do anything to them that she wouldn't do to her own son, she means it.
Bridges
Fixed Bridges can improve chewing and aesthetic appearance, restoring the smile with a more permanent solution than removable alternatives. Bridges replace missing teeth with artificial teeth permanently cemented to your adjacent teeth. Crowns and bridges require two appointments, 2-3 weeks apart. We work very hard to make your temporary crown or bridge cosmetic, comfortable and functional.
Dental Bonding
In addition to dental cleaning and checkups, we offer cosmetic dentistry services such as porcelain veneers, porcelain inlays, dental bonding, tooth contouring and reshaping, crowns, teeth whitening, dental bridges and tooth-colored fillings.
Restorative Dentistry

Root Canal Treatment
In a root canal, your dentist will remove the infected pulp and replace it with a thermoplastic filling. The tooth is then restored to reinforce the tooth against future fractures and enhance the tooth's appearance. Root canals have an extremely high success rate in saving teeth that would otherwise be lost to infection.

Deep Cleaning
Periodontitis will require more aggressive treatment. A deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) may be recommended which involves the removal of plaque/calculus below the gums. For your comfort, anesthesia is used and the procedure is broken up into 2 (or more) visits for the deep cleaning itself and a final polish visit where we remove any residual stain and check for persistent areas of inflammation.

Dentures
If a patient is missing all teeth in either or both jaws, complete dentures are the treatment of choice. Dr. Laurie will first evaluate the bone structure to determine the proper treatment plan in order to achieve the very best fit for each patient. Unlike some of these denture clinics you see nowadays that offer economy, standard and deluxe dentures, Dr. Laurie only does one kind of denture - the very best!

Implants offer stability because they integrate with your bone. Integration of the implants into your jaw also helps your replacement teeth feel more natural and some people also find the secure fit more comfortable than conventional substitutes.

Oral Surgery
In cases of severe bone loss around a tooth due to gum disease or when a tooth is unrestorable due to extensive decay or fracture, extraction may be the only option. Dr. Laurie does 99% of her own extractions (she spent a summer as an extern in the Emory oral surgery residency and is very proficient).

The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Award for the highest academic average in the didactic and clinical courses in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
