If you are over 45 years old, a letter of clearance from your OB/GYN will be required, as well as an EKG, coordinated by your primary care physician within one year, and preconception counseling with a Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialist. Your physician can provide referrals as needed, and the purpose is to ensure that pregnancy won’t lead to an excessive increase in medical risk.
Family Practice
Those pursuing donor egg IVF will be able to review profiles of available egg donors and make a choice best for them. The profile will include egg donors’ health history, genetic carrier screening results, family health history, physical descriptions of family members, and childhood photos. This allows the recipient to make the most informed decision possible regarding their potential egg donor. Your donor egg IVF coordinator will be able to guide you through the selection process and answer any questions that you may have.

Depending on the option chosen, there may be no delay, a very minimal delay, or possibly up to a 4-week delay for women opting to undergo IVF with egg or embryo freezing. Typically, the IVF process takes about 2-3 weeks. We often coordinate the fertility treatments with the approval of the patient’s oncologist so as to have little or no delay in cancer treatment. Previous studies indicate that time delays or short term hormonal elevations for fertility preservation have little impact on cancer outcomes. However, the decision to proceed with fertility preservation is made in conjunction with the patient’s cancer care team.

Ultrasound
PREG has worked to bring assisted reproductive technology (ART) services to the Southeast and beyond with five state-of-the-art offices across the Carolinas. Located in Greenville, Spartanburg, the Lowcountry, and Columbia, SC and Asheville, NC, patients can receive their ultrasound monitoring. intrauterine inseminations (IUI), phlebotomy for labs, and administer medications at any of these offices. Our IVF centers are located in Greenville, Columbia and the Lowcountry, SC, where patients undergo their egg retrieval and embryo transfers.

Chemotherapy
Some women may not be able to conceive a child using their own oocytes (eggs). The reasons vary, but may include: early menopause (premature ovarian failure), dimished egg quality, absence of the ovaries from birth, previous chemotherapy, previous ovarian surgery, prior unsuccessful fertility treatment, or genetic issues. Such patients are encouraged to explore donor egg IVF options at PREG. To be considered as a recipient for donor eggs, you must have a normal uterus and be 51 years of age or younger.

Vasectomy
This procedure retrieves sperm from the testicle or epididymis for obstructive azoospermia (no sperm due to blockage after vasectomy) or for non-obstructive azospermia (no sperm on ejaculation with no prior vasectomy).Our physicians can perform the surgical sperm retrieval in PREG’s surgery suites in Greenville or Columbia, with PREG’s andrologists available to perform immediate sperm cryopreservation (if sperm suitable for cryopreservation is found). The cryopreserved (frozen) sperm can then be used later with the intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) technique in an IVF cycle to achieve fertilization of eggs obtained by transvaginal ultrasound follicle aspiration resulting in embryos.

Laparoscopy
If the operative note is not available, a diagnostic laparoscopy (placing a small telescope into your abdomen through your belly-button) can be performed to evaluate the amount of fallopian tube that is available. If you are not a good candidate for tubal reversal or if there are other infertility factors involved, In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) may be the preferred method for achieving pregnancy.
