Kastan Kennels

My two dogs were boarded on a Friday- Sunday. Worst experience. Supposed to be open at 7, had to wait for someone to get there. Upon arrival- I was told my dogs would probably smell- and be dirty, because they pooped all over the kennel. I was under the assumption that they were to be let out throughout the day. One of my dogs was extremely nervous when I picked them up. Upon drop off- current employee was rude. Both of my dogs did not want to go back with her- when she put them on a collar. I offered to walk back with them. I was told no- weird vibe there. I had a bag full of toys that I left for them, toys were never given to them. As soon as I got my dogs home, they drank and drank like they hadn't drank for a while. Also went to the bathroom numerous times as soon as they were in the backyard. NOT what I expected for my dogs care. NEVER going back.

I took my shih-tzu to Kastan's almost two weeks ago. I just moved to the area and took a chance... a horrible decision on my part. Upon my arrival to pick my dog up I was greeted by a "nervous" groomer who proceeds to tell me that she did get some soap in her eye and it may be irritated some, I can understand that completely... soooo after three days and my dog couldn't open her eye, I got VERY concerned. I called Kastan's to ask again if something else might have occurred and I was rudely told that THEY DO NOT LIE and they would have told me if something happened to my dog, I was also LAUGHED at when I asked if anything else happened that I should know about. My mind was completely blown. Anyway, long story short, it's been almost two weeks and my dog is still unable to open her eye, it's matted and constantly draining and will need to see the vet. I'm not certain her vision is still intact in that eye. mistakes happen and I can understand but as my dog's caregiver I should be told if the eye was cut or something of that nature so I could have taken care of it THAT day. I can't say enough bad things about my experience at Kastan's. I couldn't recommend them to my worse enemy. Do yourself and your pet and favor and do not take them here!!!

Took my yorkie in and got exactly opposite what was asked. Wanted a small amount off and just cleaned up around her face. Picked her up and she was about 3/4 inch long and they left her tail untrimmed. Tried to say she had matts which I know she didn't. I think they were just lazy. Will not go back!!

Kastan Kennels has been taking care of our dogs for years. The original owners are very dear friends of ours and we were worried when they sold the business. But the new owners have a great groomer Heidi that takes awesome care of our pups. When we give special instructions they follow those instructions. When dropping off the dogs you are allowed to have a look around and ask questions. When we board the dogs we can leave toys and blankets and they will even wash them for us if they get soiled. If you live in the Yukon area this is an affordable place to use for your grooming and boarding needs.

I have boarded my dogs there a few times. It was never for longer than a weekend though. This time I boarded them for 2 weeks while I went overseas. One dog was great, but my other dog got kennel cough and lost 7 lbs. She was clearly sick when I picked her up. She wasn't excited to see me and coughed as soon as she got into the car. She's being treated now for the kennel cough, but it's almost been a week, and she's still coughing. Part of it is my fault for not making sure she had a shot for it, but I totally didn't think about it, but in hindsight, why on earth would they not require proof of vaccinations, plus the one for kennel cough.



I will never take my dogs there again.
