Do NOT hire Betsy Cotton to be your attorney. On a personal level, she is a very nice person. As an attorney, she is severely lacking. She advised (and mis-advised) me for around two years in a divorce case and then represented me in my final hearing and another hearing a few months prior to the final which only happened because she failed to do what she was supposed to do--and that hearing cost me a $900 fee I had to pay to the other attorney because of Betsy's flawed advice and also likely because of her mishandling of the hearing. After I finally received her bill almost four months after everything was over, I was shocked at how much money I owed her. This was the ONLY bill I received over the course of the three years, so I had no idea where I was money-wise with her. I assumed that I hadn't gone that far over my retainer fees since she hadn't sent me anything. Don't be fooled by her lower-than-normal hourly rate. You will still be wasting money. Her response to my itemization of her malpractice in my case was to say she was sorry there had been "misunderstandings" rather than any kind of sincere apology over the irrefutable effect of her action/inaction. I don't know how to tell you how to find a decent lawyer, but look somewhere else.
