Rosewood Farms

Rosewood is a wonderful facility, that cares for the horses and their owner's very much. I read some of the reviews, and the surcharge for a horse eating 'more than they should' is not true at all. In all the years I have been there that has never been the policy. Owner's have to buy their own supplements, yes. But as far as grain and hay, your board covers as much as they need. Also, the feeders are there twice a day EVERY day, and sometimes all day long just so they can feed some of the much older horses a small lunch to keep winter weight on. It is true that there are quite a few machines or 'toys,' as the owner sees them, in the back but they are out of the way and not unsafe. It is unsightly, I will give you that. Both trainers also stay up with taking lessons and clinics and often as they can get the time off from teaching. One of them even studied at Meredith Manor to become a certified instructor and equine massage therapist. They both take every precaution in the book to keep both horse and rider safe.



One of the main things to know about this barn is their primary demographic are those who want to experience what it's like to ride, own a horse, and occasionally show, but can't afford the bigger more upscale barns. 85% of the barns in this area charge $450 to $800 a month. Rosewood prides themselves in being able to offer the same service for less money. Does that mean they have to make sacrifices in order to charge so little? Absolutely. The feed isn't top of line, but keeps the horses happy and healthy. Pat has fattened up many horses per the instruction of Dr. Meeker many of those times. If anything there are many horses that need to lose weight (aside from the really old horses). No the jumps are not made of PVC and will be getting a new paint job soon, no they do not have wood fencing throughout, but mostly high tensile. If the fencing ever gets lose it is fixed as soon as it is noticed. The new instructors work 5 days a week to be sure what little Rosewood may have is tidy, clean, operable, and safe.



Rosewood guarantees that you will not have an algae bottomed or empty water trough. This was something that used to happen under the prior instructor's care. She deemed herself 'head instructor' and took responsibility for many of theses things that USED to go on.



You will find now that Rosewood employees all work on a level playing field as a team to help you and your horse get the most out of their care. If anyone is considering Rosewood I and many others will be happy to give you our experiences as boarders if you would like to speak with us. Just to mention a few, one of the boarders even works at Dr. Meeker's as vet tech and has been with Rosewood for years. Another is a Doctor who at one point left Rosewood for training purposes, but went back quickly because she liked their lack of barn politics and easy going atmosphere better.

this place is run down, they feed subpar grain full of corn and then charge a surcharge if you horses eat more "than they should", the owner rarely invests back into the property and the pastures are rough to say the least. there is one nice pasture with a lovely pond but it's full of hornet's nests and JUNK (i.e. an old washer half sunk into the ground perfect for cutting up your horse). the back part of the farm is a giant junk yard with rundown trailers and scrap metal everywhere. getting the owner to keep the ring nice and fluffy by watering and dragging it is like pulling teeth and it isn't uncommon to walk into any pasture during the summer and see mossy green warm water for the horses to drink. horses get fed when the feeders FEEL like getting out of bed which may only be once a day during the winter. if it gets so cold or rainy that you feel as though your horse should be in his/her stall, it can go in, IF YOU clean your own stall....for what they're charging they can at least clean the stalls, although you'd be better off doing it yourself as they just throw clean stuff on top of dirty stuff.



the instructors as of late have gone downhill, none of them have ever proven themselves in the showring and quite frankly would benefit from a few lessons themselves.



this place is good if you're strapped for cash, have an easy keeper that's retired and just needs a pasture to sit in and enjoy life. if you're serious about riding this is not the place for you,if you ride in general this is not the place for you.

Do NOT board your horse nor take instruction from this barn. Despite it's lack of aesthetic appeal, this farm's owners and instructors cut other corners vital to you and your animal's well being. The fencing is unsafe and not sturdy- several horses have had severe injuries after being caught in it. It's also easily escapable and not uncommon to find a horse or two loose on any given day. The pastures are full of manure and never rotated....many have debris lying in them furthering the unsafe factor (ie: scrap metal, old washing machine, thrown shoes with nails in them). The feed they give your horse is straight sweet feed and so high in carbs and sugar that it's doing more harm than good. The unprofessional atmosphere that the owners and instructors give off after several visits is enough to make anyone turn and run. The facility is practically in shambles and falling apart. The rings are never worked and my horse constantly had sore feet, despite shoes, because of the hard ground. The water troughs are never cleaned leaving your pasture-bound horse having to drink out of a algae-bottomed bin and persistently dehydrated. Many horses lose weight and muscle mass upon arriving here. Don't make the mistake I did....keep on driving to someone who knows what they're doing, and more importantly, actually cares about your horse.

This is the perfect place if you're looking for friendly and patient staff who are willing to work with different age groups. Once you start down the road to halter the horse, all the day's worries seem to float away.

I LOVE Rosewood! It's a safe, spacious farm that doesn't discriminate against horses or riders based on skill level or breed... they welcome everyone! There are lots of trails to ride on, a HUGE jumping ring, round pen, dressage ring, acres of pastures, and two big barns. The farm is nice, but not nice to the extent you are afraid to break something... it is a working horse farm. The owner Pat works miracles with the horses; she can make the skinniest horse healthy and she does it the right way, not a quick fix! The trainer Alex is great there too - she pushes you to work hard and to challenge yourself but she won't push you too far to where you're uncomfortable. She also broke my horse for me and I couldn't ask for anything better - my horse is calm and obedient and she didn't use harsh methods (like beating or all those training aids) to train her! In the years I have been here, Rosewood has grown and gotten better and better! It's not your typical barn where there's "horse politics." The horses are allowed to just be horses and the people are very welcoming and fun! They have about 8 lesson horses are they're well-trained and great too! Rosewood does shows, clinics, parties and all kinds of fun stuff too! If you're looking to board or train your horse or to take lessons, definitely consider Rosewood. They have the property to accommodate you and your horse and to make everyone very happy! I used to board at another local show barn and left because I was "shunned" because I couldn't buy an overpriced horse they wanted me to purchase. Rosewood is a cozy, no-pressure barn and I'm glad that I was "shunned" because I found an even better place!
