Les Schwab Tires

Full on extortion! My sister and her family were on a road trip when they were about sixteen miles out of town and got a flat. They got the temp spare put on and stopped at Les Schwab in Winnemucca NV. They were told that they had to get all four tires changed or nothing because they have four wheel drive on their vehicle. Mind you it is front wheel drive with push button four wheel drive. Even when asked if they could just give us a tire and we would put it on they refused. They stated that they would be liable and we asked if they had a disclaimer or waver or both they would be willing to sign so they could at least get to a dealer in Reno to have the issue taken care of...the answer was no. Purchase all four tires or nothing. Big O had the same stance. I have never been so shocked. They didnt care that these people had over 300 mile to get back home or that Reno was 166 miles away. When I told the manager at Les Schwab that I was going to write an editorial, his response was that I was threatening him. It was not a threat in any way. I will be contacting the Corporate office and placing an editorial in the local paper. Sad really because my husband is a VERY loyal customer and has been for over twenty years. I do understand the concept of needing all four tires but if a person cant afford to purchase all four at that given moment and is turned away that is wrong. Had they not found someone that would sell them a tire they would have had to drive on the doughnut spare 166 miles to Reno. What is worse on the transmission or transfer case? A tire with a different tread but the same size or a temp spare? Even when their Les Schwab shop from their home town called they refused to even lift a finger to help my family. They would rather resort to extortion or nothing. I would truly like to believe that this was a bad day for this place but when Big O did the same thing I wonder if we have an issues in this small town.
