        Established in 1971, Amtrak provides intercity passenger rail service to more than 500 destinations in 46 states on a 21,000-mile route system. Amtrak, also known as the National Railroad Passenger Corporation, operates a loyalty program known as Guest Rewards. It also provides small package and less-than-truckload shipping services between more than 100 cities. Amtrak employs approximately 19,000 people and owns more than 1,400 railroad passenger cars and over 400 locomotives. Amtrak also owns 17 tunnels and 1,186 bridges. It operates several maintenance facilities and is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
