Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia. This condition can also cause stiffness in multiple muscles. The affected areas will be determined and then massaged out.
Plantar Fasciitis

Primary Care

Immunizations
Due to using very thin filaments, the discomfort is minimal, much less than a blood drawn or vaccination. Once the thin needle gently glides into the muscle, it can feel like a deep cramp. But it only lasts no more than 15 to 30 seconds.

Internal Medicine
“It is my pleasure to tell you about my experience at Connecticut Family PT. I had gone to my doctor at Internal Medicine of Westport who diagnosed me with bursitis in my left leg. It was painful and it was hard to go up and down stairs. It was also uncomfortable getting in and out of my car. I worked with Daniel Tannenbaum PT who performed physical therapy on my leg for several sessions. I wasn’t certain that I would get back to 100% pain free. I had my doubts. Neurology
Physical therapists have years of university level training in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology (study of joint movement), neurology, and many of the other medical sciences. Our physical therapists have graduated from accredited physical therapy programs and are state licensed. Depending on the university, the physical therapy program is either a masters or doctorate level degree. Rest assured, your therapist is well trained to evaluate and treat your condition.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome. Patients with carpal tunnel syndrome can benefit from myofascial release by having the muscles in their hands, wrists, and/or arms massaged out, in order to improve function and mobility.

Ultrasound
Pain springs up for a variety of reasons, but it is well-understood that improving mobility and strength can lessen pain. Whatever the injury or condition is, you will probably improve your pain level if you practice the right therapeutic exercises. While it may hurt more initially to move through your exercises, you will typically find that a short time after you complete them you will experience less pain than you did before. A physical therapist can also use tools like ultrasound and electrical stimulation to reduce your pain.
MRI
When I started coming to CT Family PT, my shoulder was in such pain I dreaded even simple tasks like brushing my hair. The MRI revealed a combination of problems: a partially torn rotator cuff, inflamed tendons, a bone spur, and a shoulder anatomy that made matters worse. The orthopedist said I might need surgery but encouraged me to try PT first. As a very fit and active “boomer”, my standards for returning to full activity were high, and I searched a bit before settling on CT Family PT, because wanted to be sure of having a good PT “partner” in fixing my shoulder. I am happy to say my shoulder is almost 100% recovered now, thanks to CFPT!

Sciatica
“Carolina is nothing short of a miracle worker. I came to this lovely young woman with debilitating sciatica pain. My orthopedist said it was my spine and he could offer painkillers or surgery. I requested physical therapy luckily. My chiropractor also said it was my spine and I only need to commit to months of adjustments. Only Carolina diagnosed it correctly as a problem of the joint of my sacroiliac (not my spine). She then gave me a series of amazing massages and ordered some home exercises. Within weeks (3-4) my pain was gone. I feel so blessed to have met her.”
Whiplash
Sudden traumas or injuries. Sudden damage to the neck or back, such as a sports collision or whiplash, may result in back or neck pain.
Pinched Nerve
Osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is the “wear and tear” on the facet joints, which causes friction when bending. This can also result in a pinched nerve root, which can cause sciatica.
Hip Replacement
“I can’t adequately say thank you for your care and treatment for my rotator cuff injury. The skill and dedication the staff provided was admirable. I have been to several different therapy places for various minor injuries over the years, the most recent was following total hip replacement. My experience has always been that after a few sessions, the therapists more or less expect you to continue on your own while at their facility. I always found that to be a rather dismissive attitude. At your facility my therapist was working with me at all times. Helping, correcting if I wasn’t doing something the right way, encouraging etc. That’s really what’s needed and, in reality, what you’re paying for, but most often don’t receive.
Knee Replacement
Tara has been a terrific partner as my physical therapist. She provided support and professional help that hastened my recovery from knee replacement surgery. Tara is very knowledgeable and has been delightful and encouraging to work with. She has known when to modify my exercise program as my body and knee have strengthened and improved. She listens to my needs and has been able to give me appropriate new exercises when I have encountered what I perceived as unexpected changes. Tara has been able to explain why changes have occurred and what to potentially expect for the long term from her experiences with other patients. She has always made sure that my program has moved forward in a positive direction for my recovery. Thank you Tara!

Tennis Elbow
Some injuries happen suddenly, like slipping and falling, while others happen gradually over time, such as carpal tunnel or tennis elbow. What all injuries have in common is that they damage tissues in your body, which leads to pain and loss of mobility. Given the right treatment, muscles can heal and bones can mend, but you may still be left with issues related to your movement. You may unknowingly learn adaptive movements that help you avoid pain and discomfort, but cause further damage to your body. The end result of an injury can often be that you have troubles with mobility long after the initial damage has healed.
Slipped Disc
The term “slipped disc” isn’t all that accurate. That is, discs don’t truly slip out of place but either herniation or bulge. With a disc bulge, the spinal disc (normally aligned between two vertebrae) protrudes out of place due to some sort of abnormal pressure or force. With a disc herniation, the outer fibrous layer of the disc ruptures, which allows the disc’s inner substances to leak out into the surrounding area.

Aquatic Therapy
Active physical therapy for neck and back pain typically includes specific exercises, stretches, adjustments, in order to manage or relieve your pain altogether. In some cases, aquatic therapy may be recommended, as the buoyancy of water takes pressure off of the cervical and lumbar spine while you’re performing the exercises.
Manual Therapy
Are you recovering from a recent injury or surgical procedure? Are you experiencing the aches and pains from an underlying condition? If so, manual therapy can provide you with relief.

Plantar Fasciitis
IASTM is the acronym for instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization. It also is directly associated with the Graston brand. The Graston technique is a type of manual therapy that utilizes specialized ergonomic tools that massage and scrape the skin gently. The Graston technique uses a set of stainless steel instruments to help soft tissue injuries to the connective tissues, muscles, neurological tissues and skin. It is effective for soft tissue injuries like repetitive stress injury, strains, sprains and subluxations. This soft tissue mobilization technique treats a wide number of conditions, including quadricep pain, rotator cuff pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, lower back pain, plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow and even headaches. This technique has had proven results for patients.
