J&R Towing Recovery & Repair Inc.

Yesterday, Thanksgiving Day, my car and I waited for AAA tow from Marion, Mass. to my place near Newport, R. I. The driver and his helper did an excellent job working my car with its wheels locked due to a sudden binding up of the transmission up and down the ramp. Their service was also attended with plenty of courtesy. No grumbling over delay in enjoying holiday. Had arrival been about fifteen minutes earlier, I probably would award fifth star.

Brought my car to J&R to get a diagnosis on what was wrong with it, it had a twitch in the steering wheel, I told them not to fix anything without letting me know what would needed to be replaced or serviced on.  OK, a day goes by and I hear nothing from them, so the next day I call them, and they say they fixed the car. What? I just wanted a diagnosis, $400 dollars later, I have a power steering flush, and apparently it took them 4 hours to do it, along with a look around on my suspension to make sure it was all tight,  4 hours??? The industry average for the cost of a diagnosis is, to my understanding, around $150, that’s all I wanted.  Also they drove my car for 130 miles, wasted a half of tank of gas, and had the nerve to charge me extra money for more gas they bought. 



Bit of advice to anyone, avoid J&R, they said they called me, to tell what they were going to do to fix my car, but I have no record of a call, or a voicemail.  And according to mass law (940 CMR 5.05) any mechanic needs your consent (written or verbal) from you before they perform any work, something they didn’t know at J&R I guess.  Also they charge $70 to check for codes in your cars computer system, something AutoZone does for FREE.  And heaven forbid you try and talk to them about the price, they become disgruntled and demand you pay in cash in fear you will try and stiff them on the payment, a bit hypocritical in my opinion.
