After completing his residency training in general surgery, Dr. Stevens specialized in plastic surgery at the Institute for Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at New York University. Based on his individual study and research, Dr. Stevens was also awarded a Ph.D. in anatomy from UCLA and received a National Research Service Award from the National Institute for Health.
