We use digital imaging technology rather than traditional X-rays. Digital X-rays use less radiation and give us clearer, more detailed images. We also use panoramic X-rays that show us your whole mouth in a single image.

Fluoride Treatment
Like everything we do at Dental Health Associates, we go that extra mile to give you the best care and treatment possible, starting with our general and preventive care. That means we have 3 different types of X-rays we can use to examine your teeth and gums. We can use sonic or ultrasonic dental hygiene tooth scalers to clean your teeth above and below the gum lines. These tools are also part of any periodontal, or gum disease treatment. Kids and adults get fluoride treatments if theyâ€™re needed.

Fillings
Resin Composite
Dental restorations cover a wide range of solutions to problems our patients can experience with their teeth. Filling cavities is just one part of what our dentists at Dental Health Associates can do to repair teeth that may be decayed or damaged. Our fillings are a white composite resin that is healthier for you than metal fillings, which can contain mercury. The composite material is matched to the natural color of your teeth, so your filled tooth doesnâ€™t look any different than a non-restored tooth.
Veneers
Composite bonding can do so many wonderful things to make your smile healthy and attractive. Our dentists use composite bonding to fill cavities, restore a chipped tooth, and use it as an alternative to veneers to mask stains and cracks.
Crowns
We perform crown lengthening (also called gum recontouring) with our soft-tissue laser in our Verona office. We can usually complete your crown lengthening/gum recontouring in one visit. Weâ€™ll apply a local anesthetic to the gums, then trim, shape, and seal the excess gum tissue. There is no bleeding, and you may experience only minor discomfort afterward.
Bridges
Dental Bonding
Weâ€™ll only recommend tooth recontouring if you have sufficient enamel to allow the treatment. If not, we can use composite bonding or perhaps gum recontouring to achieve the result you want.
Restorative Dentistry

Root Canal Treatment
We also perform restorative dental services that other dental offices donâ€™t, such as root canal surgery. Our patients at Dental Health Associates donâ€™t need to visit a different dentist for root canal surgery. They can have this procedure done at one of our offices, by dentists and a team you trust. Thatâ€™s what convenience and value mean to us.

Dentures
If you have multiple missing teeth, the best way to replace them may be with partial or full dentures. A partial denture is used to replace lost teeth when one or more of your natural teeth remain. The replacement teeth are attached to a gum-colored plastic base that is removable.

In 2007, Dr. Calvano earned his Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD). To achieve this honor, dentists must take more than 500 hours of educational courses in various areas of dentistry and must pass a rigorous exam. Dr. Calvano is one of only 7 percent of AGD dentists who have earned an AGD Fellowship. In 2011, Dr. Calvano completed an extensive continuing education series in orthodontics with Progressive Orthodontic Seminars.

Dr. Ian Bernard was born in Oxford England and raised in Bealeton, VA until graduating from High School and moving to southern Illinois where he attended Rend Lake college for two years, before joining the U.S. Army. There he attended basic training in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and became a combat medic at FT. Sam Houston, TX where he went on to serve in South Korea for a year with the 1-72 Armored Brigade and was promoted to specialist. He fell in love with dentistry and decided to go into the Army reserves and return to Illinois to attend college full-time with the goal of becoming a Dentist. At Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville he earned his bachelor’s in biology focused on biomedical sciences and attended Midwestern University for dental school. He then moved to Virginia and became a Fellow with the American Academy of General Dentistry in 2020; this prestigious award is held by less than 10% of all general dentists.
