Saint Johns Episcopal Church

The quality of worship and service at St. John's depends upon who is celebrating Mass.

Some local clergy boldly and Biblically stand with those in Tyler who have been abused or ostracized by other faith communities, or by the state government. These clergy make the St. John's community worth exploring.

Other local clergy are apathetic about the human rights and welfare of our neighbors in Tyler who are relentlessly abused and outcast. These latter clergy seem afraid to say anything that isn't explicitly provided in the Book of Common Prayer. If all we needed was the BCP, we could stay home and read it.

Churches need more than hymns and readings -- or sermons that excuse an unjust status quo. Vibrant churches must stand up for those who need pastoral care and Christ-like public advocacy the most, in the face of hostility from those who live according to society's prejudices and resentments.

St. John's is halfway there.
