Preventive Care

Dental Care
Caring for our own dental health is a daily routine in our lives, including daily brushing and flossing as well as yearly cleanings and exams. Remember that our pets require regular professional dental care just like people do! Our hospital offers a thorough dental exam with every physical exam, and will make dental recommendations if abnormalities are detected.
Vaccination
Dog and cat microchipping is a simple procedure. A veterinarian simply injects a microchip for pets, about the size of a grain of rice (12mm), beneath the surface of your pets skin between the shoulder blades. The process is similar to a routine shot, takes only a few seconds, and your pet will not react any more than he would to a vaccination. No anesthetic is required.
Nutritional Counseling
Some pets require special food, and all pets benefit from a balanced diet. Our trained and certified staff is available to help you choose the right diet for your pet to keep him or her happy, healthy and active.
Comprehensive Examination
Our doctors have extensive experience with a wide range of sedatives and anesthetics and will use the optimum combination for your pet and the procedure he or she is having. A comprehensive physical examination is performed on all animals the day of their procedure. Pre-anesthetic blood testing is essential in helping the doctors thoroughly evaluate your pet prior to anesthesia.

All sedated or anesthetized patients are monitored closely including but not limited to heart rate, blood oxygenation levels, blood pressure, core body temperature, respiratory rate, and ecg. All surgical patients have an intravenous catheter placed prior to the procedure and receive peri/intra-operative IV fluid therapy. At Dilworth Small Animal Hospital, we are committed to minimizing discomfort and providing a positive experience for your precious pets. All of our patients receive appropriate medication to prevent and alleviate pain.

Dr. Sara Catherine Edwards is a small animal veterinary practitioner and owner of Magnolia Veterinary Surgery. Dr. Edwards is a native of West Point, MS and earned her Bachelor of Science at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. She was then accepted to Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine, and graduated in 2009. During veterinary school, Dr. Edwards developed a special interest in canine rehabilitation, and pursued further education in this emerging area of veterinary medicine at The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine CCRP course training.
Spaying and Neutering

Laboratory Services
Just as with human medicine, in certain illnesses or surgical events it may be necessary to take a look at your pet’s bloodwork prior to the procedure. Our facility has the ability to run a complete blood count (CBC) to determine the amount of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets present in your pet.
X-Ray
Dilworth Small Animal Hospital offers a wide range of Internal Medicine services. Our in-house diagnostics include digital radiography, industry-leading clinical laboratory equipment, and cytology. We also have access to certified outside laboratories and pathologists when needed.
Dental Radiology
We provide a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories. We also work closely with specialists when referrals for additional diagnostic procedures or advanced surgeries are required. Our facility includes a well-stocked pharmacy, in-hospital surgery suite, in-house x-ray and dental x-ray capabilities, a closely supervised hospitalization area, and indoor boarding kennels with outdoor exercise courtyards.
Microchipping
A HomeAgain microchip is permanent pet ID. The microchip itself has no internal energy source, so it will last the life of your pet. It is read by passing a microchip scanner over the pets shoulder blades. The scanner emits a low radio frequency that provides the power necessary to transmit the microchips unique cat or dog ID code and positively identify the pet.

General Pet Care

Boarding
We provide luxury pet boarding at our sparkling Pet Peabody as a service to our clients. All boarders receive personal attention from our caring staff. Be sure to ask about our VIP services and extra playtimes. We also offer daycare for our clients and have special rates for weekly daycare guests. All canine guests receive a complimentary bath after staying with us for two or more nights. Pets may be admitted for boarding and picked up during regular business hours Monday through Saturday. As an added convenience for our clients, we are also open for pet boarding pick-up on Sunday from 4:30pm until 5:30pm.
Grooming
Treat your pet to a luxurious bath. Our special cleansing bath removes dirt, debris and that doggie pet odor. Your pet will feel fresh and revitalized. Services also include ear cleaning, nail trim, and expressing anal sacs as needed.
Senior Pet Care
Each individual procedure will vary from pet to pet and condition to condition. As with humans, the older the individual the more precaution needs to be taken. Typically a physical examination, review of the patients' medical history and blood work are recommended with older patients. These precautions will make a procedure as safe as possible with a senior pet.
