- Saguaro National Park, located in Tucson, Arizona, is a part of the United States national park system. The park got its name from the saguaro cactus, which is native to the region. Many other kinds of cactus, including barrel, cholla and prickly pear, are also abundant in the park. It was established as Saguaro National Monument in 1933 and changed to a national park in 1994. Saguaro National Park is divided into two districts and offers more than 160 miles of hiking trails. The park conducts guided tours, weddings, picnics and religious retreats. Saguaro National Park has several biotic communities, including desert scrub, desert grassland, oak and pine-oak woodland, and pine and mixed conifer forests.
