LIMITED EDITION HOT CHOCOLATE SPARROW MUGS by Jobi Pottery Posted by adminUnder Commissions, Wednesday Jun 16, 2010 JOBITM POTTERY is pleased to be the first participant in the Hot Chocolate Sparrow artist series to create an original design for a Hot Chocolate Sparrow mug. Marjorie Sparrow says, We've been wanting to do this for a long time, and we're really excited about the new Jobi design. We've got large and small mugs in different colors and they're already selling out. The Hot Chocolate Sparrow is a Cape Cod institution, recently recognized in the New York Times and referred to as the heart of the community, a place where locals and tourists come together for coffee and conversation. Susan Kurtzman, owner of Jobi Pottery and designer of the new mugs, says, I'm thrilled to be asked to participate in the artist series. I've been a fan of the Sparrow for years, as almost everyone on the Lower Cape is. Marjorie has brought so much to the local community, and it's great to be part of what she's created. Jobi Pottery is a Truro cottage industry that began in 1953 by original owners Joe Colliano and Bill Hastings ( Jo-bi ). Today, owner/designer Susan Kurtzman still uses the original mid-century casting molds to create Jobi Pottery in her Truro studio. Every piece of pottery and dinnerware is handmade and hand painted using the same methods the Jobis created. The retro look of the shapes and designs can be traced back to Cape Cod-inspired work by Joe and Bill, but Susan has also added new colors and motifs to compliment the originals. Tours of the pottery are free.
