Colleen McCarthy is a 1972 graduate of the Katharine Gibbs School, Boston, Massachusetts. Her legal career started as a corporate law Legal Assistant position, first with the Hale and Dorr law firm, and later with the Goodwin, Proctor & Hoar law firm, both at Boston, Massachusetts. Upon relocating to San Francisco, California, in 1977, she held (for the next 14 years) a probate and estate planning Legal Assistant position with the San Francisco law firm of Cooley, Godward, Castro, Huddleson & Tatum. Because of her love for the snow, in 1998 Colleen relocated to Truckee, with her then young daughter, Caitlin, and has been employed by the Law Offices of Michael E. Graham since then. Ms. McCarthy assists Mr. Graham in all areas of the specialized law practice involving estate planning, trust and probate administration, and business entities.

Estate Planning
Trust and Estate Administration involves the process of collecting, managing, and distributing the Trust and Estate of a Decedent. Our offices provides extensive service in guiding and assisting the successor Trustee of Trusts and the Administrator of an Estate or Executor of the Will in fulfilling the functions and duties of those fiduciaries. A useful checklist entitled “Estate Checklist for Trustees and Survivors” can be found attached to the right of this summary.
Trusts
Reviewing and analyzing the status of title of assets is essential in determining the correct procedures that need to be used in the Estate and Trust Administration. An experienced attorney is needed to guide the Trustee, or other fiduciary, in this process. Administration fees are charged on an hourly basis, and the highly-trained and experienced legal assistants of the Law Offices of Michael E. Graham are able to assist in these tasks at greatly reduced hourly rates, in contrast to an attorney rate, thereby ensuring lower overall costs. All work product is still reviewed and approved by an attorney.
Power of Attorney
We schedule an initial appointment to meet and review your family relationships, financial information, and determine your goals and objectives. In order to save on time and costs, we request that you complete our Estate Planning Questionnaire, Family Contact Information Worksheet, and Contact Information Worksheet for Other Beneficiaries and Fiduciaries (Fillable forms to the right), in advance, to provide to us at your initial consultation, with copies of background documentation as requested. “Fiduciaries” are those persons whom you would have serve as successor Trustees, Executor and successors, and Agents, under Powers of Attorney and Health Care Directives, and successors. We are also interested in knowing whether you have completed any prior legal documentation that would affect the current work effort.
Probate
Michael E. Graham is a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate law by the State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization. He was part of the first group of attorneys in California certified as specialists in 1990. He received his B.A., in Economics, from the University of California, Santa Barbara and earned his law degree in 1977 from the University of California, San Francisco, Hastings College of The Law. Mr. Graham was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1977 and to the State Bar of Nevada in 1985.
