The state of Kansas is a Midwestern state in the central United States. It is named after the Kansas River, which flows through it. The state is 82,227 square miles in area and has a population of approximately 2,583,745 individuals. The state grows a wide variety of crops, such as sorghum, hay and corn. Approximately 10 million bushels of wheat are harvested each year in the state of Kansas. The state s capital is Topeka, which houses the offices of the governor, lieutenant governor and reviser of statutes; the Kansas house and senate chambers; legislative offices and the administrative staff; the capitol press corps; and the Kansas State Library.
