The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice protects and serves the citizens of Georgia by holding youthful offenders accountable for their actions through the delivery of treatment services and sanctions in appropriate settings. It also works to establish youth in their communities as productive and law abiding citizens. The department provides supervision, detention and a range of educational services for youths referred to the department by the juvenile courts. The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice additionally provides assistance and delinquency prevention services for at-risk youths through collaborative efforts with other public, private and community entities. It offers services to over 52,000 youths, including youths who are placed on probation, sentenced to short-term incarceration or committed to the department s custody. With an office in Thomasville, Ga., it employs more than 4,500 staff members who manage programs, services and facilities throughout the state.
