Overall

My husband and I have ordered regularly here for 3-4 years, whenever we want to pick up Chinese for dinner. We live nearby right in Thomaston. We always order Sweet and Sour Pork - my husbands favorite - which is pretty much always VERY well-made, and we have found it to be better than any Sweet and Sour Pork we have had elsewhere. So we keep coming back to our local Chinatown.

The problem is always what to choose for the second dish. Usually its its Orange or Sesame chicken, both favorites of mine, or occasionally, if Friday is near, I order veggie Lo Mein so we can have the leftovers Friday. But the chicken dishes are never as good as what I have had elsewhere - the sauce is not special (too sticky-sweet), and often-enough the chicken itself is tough or chewy, so not appetizing, leaving us both preferring the pork dish over the chicken.

The one time we did not like the Sweet and Sour Pork was the one day we found it undercooked when we got home. It was pale, and the breading had a uncooked flour-layer next to the meat. We ate very little and ended up throwing most of it out. In the same order, the chicken was too tough to chew. It was so disappointing, a waste of money and time, so we did not order Chinese again for a very long time.

After the long time, I eventually called in another order, but explained very clearly why it had been so long since we ordered, because of the unappetizing and unacceptable last order, describing it, and how we could not eat it, and explaining that we were regular customers, and very disappointed. So, when I picked up the new order, I had hopes of being told this order was on the house, to make up for the last, or at least discounted, or at least had something thrown in for free. But most of all I expected an APOLOGY when he handed me the order, with an assurance this would not happen again. None of which happened.

So I decided there was nor more room for Chinatown to make mistakes if they wanted to keep us as a regular customer.

Well the mistake happened this week, on Monday. I decided to order the second dish as Chicken Lo Mein. The Pork was good, as usual, but the Lo Mein - ick. It was thick, sticky-soft - and it just did not taste good. I looked at the noodles: square, not fat. Is this normal? Were they overcooked and bloated? I had a few bites, and promptly in the refrigerator, thinking perhaps I was just not hungry after all.

So the next morning (Tuesday) I was hungry for the Lo Mein I had not eaten the night before, and heated a small portion (I do this quickly on the stovetop with a bit of water in a ceramic pan). It smelled like food turning BAD. And it TASTED like it was going bad. I put the rest in the fridge.

This morning, Thursday, I was cleaning out the fridge and noticed something SMELLED BAD in there. It was the LO MEIN - in its lidded plastic lidded container smelling up the fridge!

I can only conclude it was OLD Lo Mein when I got it Monday. This is not acceptable. Who can afford to waste good money on restaurant food and also the time and effort and gas to go pick it up, for OLD food??

I already know what they do when a regular customer complains clearly, succinctly and politely - NOTHING. So I am done with Chinatown.

Just across the street is Great Wall of China so I will be trying that next. And I am encouraged that a Yelp reviewer says the Lo Mein is good! So I am checking it out.
