I completely agree with the other review, even though their spelling was awful. Almost every nurse at Santa Fe was rude and unfriendly. They seemed to hate their jobs, and were unfit to be doing them. They would have been better off working elsewhere, instead of caring for people with an attitude the whole time. Some nurses were completely incompetent. One nurse "looked at the screen wrong" three times, causing me to not get my pain meds until an hour and a half past the time I was supposed to get it. During shift change every nurse is busy and if you need something the only way to get it is to act like a fool because asking nicely just gets you ignored. The nurses are slow getting to you due to having too many patients to care for at once. I was there for 5 weeks, during which time I acquired two bacterial infections because nurses didn't take the time to properly clean the area around my picc line. The tubing that connected to my picc line was often thrown on the floor, I even pulled it out of the trash can once. They then connected it to my arm after wiping it with an alcohol wipe, which clearly wasn't enough seeing that I did in fact get bacteria in my blood directly from the picc line in my arm. I also had 6 veins infiltrate, which means they leaked and became hard, swollen and painful. Finally after the 5th, they realized it was a setting on the pump that had caused my veins to leak. At the point that they corrected their error, my right arm was too swollen to even use. I could not push wheelchair anymore. I've been home one week now, and my veins are still hardened and sore. The physician's assistant that was my doctor ignored my constant plea for effective pain medication, and for 5 weeks I cried nearly every day on pain. My crying was ignored, no one ever once even attempted to calm me down or talk to me. The physician's assistant also left me clueless for 5 days about my condition. All I knew was that in the middle of the night a nurse came in and changed my usual antibiotic routine, meaning I had new bacteria. For 5 days I had to wait and wonder what was wrong with me. I had the nurses page her numerous times and she didn't respond. When she finally did, I was then made aware that I had gotten the new infections. She was senseless and I hope she never becomes a real doctor. I hope she gets fired so no other people ever have to tolerate her slowness and thoughtless ways. If you have a loved one going in for long term care I highly recommend finding a different place.
