Sciatica is a common type of pain affecting the sciatic nerve, a large nerve extending from the lower back down the back of each leg. Whiplash, also called neck sprain or neck strain, is caused by an abrupt jerking motion of the head that results in injury to the soft tissues of your neck's ligaments, tendons, and muscles. It is caused by an abnormal motion or force applied to your neck that causes movement beyond the neck's normal range of motion. This would be any motion similar to a rear end or side collision in an auto accident. This motion can also take place on a roller coaster or other amusement park rides, sports injuries such as skiing, football and soccer accidents as well as others such as boating accidents, vehicle accidents, airplane travel, or from simply being hit, kicked or shaken. Symptoms of whiplash may be delayed for 24 hours or more after the initial trauma. Symptoms may include headaches; pain in neck, pain in between shoulder blades, shoulder, lower back; numbness in hand/arm; ringing in ears; dizziness; blurred vision and difficulty sleeping and concentrating. In most cases, these soft tissues such as the discs, muscles and ligaments cannot be seen on standard X-rays. home

Slipped Disc
Herniated Disc: Discs are soft springy cushions that are located between vertebrae which keep bones from rubbing against each other. The center portion of each disc contains a gelatinous substance called the nucleus which is surrounded by a outer ring that provides structure and strength to the disc. The purpose of a disc ( disk ) is to receive the shock of standing, walking, running, etc. A herniated disc, often called a slipped disc or ruptured disc, is a rupture of the center nucleus. When this occurs it may create pressure against one or more of the spinal nerves. If herniated material presses directly on nerve roots or on the spinal cord it can cause a shock-like pain, called sciatica, down the legs, weakness, numbness, or problems with bowels, bladder, or sexual function. This problem can occur suddenly from lifting, twisting, or direct injury such as an auto accident / sports injury, or it can occur gradually from degenerative changes with periods of intensifying symptoms. home
