Colonial Laundromat

Cheaper, Cleaner, Friendlier.

Atmosphere isn’t really key to this type of business. That is, laundromat customers will usually put up with a place that’s not as clean, friendly, or reasonably affordable because everyone needs to do their laundry. However, when a Laundromat takes the extra effort to provide a friendlier and cleaner environment, it means more repeat business. Otherwise, there’s usually plenty of laundromat choices. It’s the difference between places you forward to doing business with or ones that you dread going to. NY isn’t my preferred lane of travel especially in the colder months. As I travel, the dirty laundry tends to pile up. When I do my laundry in a different area, it’s always a roll of the dice. Machine and water qualities are unknowns. Sometimes I roll snake eyes and get more stains from rusty water than my normal eating habits. I’m glad to report this was not the case with Colonial Laundromat in Mattydale, NY. The friendliness of the local patrons as well as the two attendants on duty countered the freezing temps outside. And, this is also completely opposite of many North East Coast business experiences I’ve had to date. Such as, the low prices I compare to many laundromats, even in rural areas. Since Mattydale is basically Syracuse’s neighbor, I consider the prices very low indeed. Then, the very attentive young attendants. As soon as there’s a piece of trash or spill, it’s immediately cleaned up. All while managing to get in some smart-phone surfing as younger people will do. However, when I had a question or need, it was back to business with a friendliness and professionalism that didn’t leave me feeling that I was wasting their valuable time. They offered drop-off service as well but I decided to stick around and enjoy the ambience. I’m not exaggerating either as they are located in a small strip mall with a pizzeria to satisfy my NY slice cravings. In a city where a visitor can be overwhelmed by the fast pace and indifference, it’s nice to know there’s a place where one can relax and enjoy an otherwise mundane household task.
