Sunapee Cove

I cannot begin to explain how lucky I was when I found Sunapee Cove Independent and Assisted Living Residence in Sunapee, NH (actually the town it's located in is Georges Mills, next to New London, NH). My elderly dad still lived in NY on Long Island in the same home he'd lived in for 50 years with my mother (who died 6 years ago). He did fine there until he had a heart attack. After that he couldn't live alone and I wanted him close to me in NH. I needed to find a top- quality residence for him immediately. A very knowledgeable and helpful social worker from "A Place for Mom" told me about Sunapee Cove. "A Place for Mom" is a real find....they are free phone and online social services with helpful, knowledgeable social workers. They have a toll free 800# and their website is www.aplaceformom.com.

I could not have created a better home for my dad if I had done it myself. Sunapee Cove's staff is awesome! The wonderful owners are very involved with the residence, as well as knowing the individual residents well, each and every one of them. The administrators, the nursing staff, the kitchen staff, the cleaning staff (everyone there!) is highly competent, very knowledgeable, friendly, caring and patient. My dad died at 90 years old, having completely enjoyed his time at Sunapee Cove. He often told me how nice everyone was .....and how good, and plentiful, the food was (served in a lovely restaurant-style dining room), how helpful the staff was in taking him to doctor appointments and other outings......the entire staff made my dad's transition very comfortable and smooth. I felt extremely grateful that he now lived in a beautiful residence, on the shore of a beautiful lake, and was being cared for by a staff who treated him as if he were family. That's the key to describing Sunapee Cove......a warm and friendly family atmosphere, where everyone shows that they care.......and the services are of the highest quality.

Something beautiful happened right before my dad died there, in his own bed as he preferred, cared for by the fantastic nursing staff......it was the middle of the night when one of the lovely nurse's aides was sitting with my dad, holding his hand as he slept. My dad woke up, said "Thank you" to her......then kissed her hand....and peacefully died.
