Joel M. Evans, M.D., a board certified OB/GYN, is the Founder and Director of The Center for Women’s Health, where he practices Integrative Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is also the Chief Medical Officer of Liiv.com, a start-up technology company funded by Eric Schmidt and Jim Held designed to provide the latest health information to health care consumers, physician offices and the enterprise market. Dr Evans serves on the editorial advisory board of Bottom Line/Women’s Health and as a peer reviewer for Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine. He is a member of the senior faculty of two of the most recognized and prestigious teaching institutions in integrative medicine: The Center for Mind/Body Medicine and the Institute for Functional Medicine. This spring (2011) he was the external lead physician in the creation of the IFM Advanced Practice Module in Hormone Health. He is a former Director of two nationally known organizations focused on pregnancy, Childbirth Connection and the Association for Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Health. Dr. Evans also helped create a clinical study at Columbia University Medical Center on the use of the herb black cohosh in breast cancer, which was presented at the 2001 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncologists and later published in their journal.

Internal Medicine
However, finding a multivitamin with the proper high quality, toxin free ingredients, pharmaceutical industry quality control and manufacturing standards at an affordable price was always a challenge. This task ultimately proved to be impossible, leaving Dr. Evans no alternative but to create and formulate his own multivitamin that would meet his exacting demands by including the safest and most effective nutrients and having them manufactured using the highest quality standards in the industry. After consulting with his internal medicine colleague Steven Fisher, M.D. about the latest nutritional needs for men, they worked together to produce THEVite, the ideal multivitamin for men and women.
Gastroenterology
His most recent accomplishment is the publication of a chapter in the textbook Integrative Gastroenterology entitled “Premenstrual and Menstrual Exacerbation of IBS: An Integrative Medicine Analysis of the Bi-Directional Connection between Female Hormones and Gut Health”. Having pursued studies in spirituality, metaphysics, and personal transformation for many years, Dr. Evans has recently created a core curriculum designed to share ancient spiritual wisdom with others in order to help bring health and happiness into their lives.
Cancer Care
Initial Consultation (the first step): This is a visit with the Center's Founder and Director, Joel M. Evans, M.D., and involves a thorough interview discussing the medical history as well as an assessment of the emotional and spiritual issues that accompany a diagnosis of cancer. Laboratory testing specifically useful for cancer patients is also discussed, such as: measuring the effectiveness of the body's ability to rid itself of toxic chemicals, an assessment of antioxidant (anti-cancer compound) levels, discovering which foods stress the immune system, and determining the level of exposure to known cancer causing substances. The strengths, as well as the limitations, of the scientific literature on the different healing traditions and therapeutic modalities will be explained in a way that guides each patient (both men and women) as they decide on the "first steps" of their Integrative Cancer Care Program and define its goals and objectives.

Stress Management
Sheldon Lewis teaches stress-management skills and meditation and has led Mind-Body-Spirit groups at the Center for Women’s Health, where he and Dr. Joel Evans created and co-lead the Wisdom of the Heart workshop. He also co-leads a weekly Meditation course with Monique Class.

Thyroid
Food Sensitivity Testing: A simple blood test that identifies foods that irritate the gastrointestinal tract and stimulate the immune system in a harmful way. Because the gut is the largest immune organ in the body, irritations from these foods can play a role in the development of autoimmune disease (specifically thyroid disease) and depression.

Mammography
Thermography is not designed to be used instead of mammography. We believe the best role of thermography is in addition to standard breast cancer screening, giving us more information to make the best decisions about breast health. For example, a thermogram may tell us that further testing is indicated even in the presence of a normal mammogram. Thus, women at increased risk for breast cancer are ideal candidates for thermography. Protocol: Because thermography is designed to detect a change in temperature, a baseline and 3 month follow up exam are required in the first year. Annual photographs are appropriate in subsequent years. Dr. Evans will meet with all patients approximately one week after the procedure to discuss the results in detail.
Chemotherapy
Naturopathic Medicine - The evidenced-based use of nutrition, herbs and supplements that have been shown to increase the effectiveness and decrease the toxicity of chemotherapy and radiation. Prevention of recurrence becomes a focus at the completion of conventional cancer treatment.
