O'Neill & Sons Moving

Avoid this unprofessional company! The movers were rude and careless.
They damaged a very expensive table in front of me and then said I did it!
The owner Chris was called and he showed up. He didn't even ask me what happened just hurled abuse and denied any responsibility.
Be warned

I would not recommend this company if you are looking for honnest movers.

We use their services for a long distance move. They came with the wrong truck and had to transfer our belongings in another truck without our knowledge. In the process they broke several things (furniture, pictures, electronics…) and stole other things such as foldin tables, garden tools, brand new aluminium ladder and more...

They claim they have insurance but they do not reimburse for what they brake or take.

They do not inventory your boxes and you pay them by the hour. Be cautious if you decide to hire them.

However, the crew is hard working and nice.

I used O'Neill and Sons to pack and move .8 miles (yes, less than a mile) and this is my review since I've finally unpacked and seen the result.



I'll start with the pros:

- the movers were very nice and courteous.

- they showed up on time to pack and the packing went fast.

- they used my felt floor protectors and added them to a lot of the furniture to protect the floors in the new place.



the cons:

- the big con: they overcharged us by $250. when I asked about it, they got very defensive and said I was "nickel and diming" them. I don't know what world they are living in, but for my pocket $250 is a significant amount. chris o'neill was so defensive and argumentative, I felt bullied and extremely uncomfortable.

- the overcharge came from adding an additional 1/2 hour to the pack, and 1/2 hour to the move. they completely rounded up and decided to charge us for "prepping" their vehicles. that's the price of being in the moving business - you prep your vehicles and I don't pay for it.

- they charged us for wardrobe boxes that were ours, they just assembled them (we had them from our last move). when questioned, they said they would refund the money, but we haven't seen that and it's been weeks.

- the amount charged was over TWICE the written estimate. TWICE!

- they showed up to pack and the packing went fast and well. while they knew I had a small baby, they took it upon themselves to smoke in our driveway before the pack, I let it go, but ended up packing the master bedroom myself and shutting the doors since the smell on the movers was so intense. (too cold to open the windows)

- fragile items were on the bottom of the the piles of boxes. they were clearly marked fragile.

- we found the following packed in our boxes: a 3ft box with 3 small pillows in it. a box with some framed art, nicely wrapped, but packed with a moving blanket (why??) and 3 empty rolls of used packing tape that they were using to pack (what???), and several items that were wrapped in an obscene amount of packing paper.

- it was obvious they were trying to use more supplies than needed for the move in order to charge us more.



as reference: we've moved several times in the tri state area, across the country, and up and down the east coast. this move was only $800 less than moving across the country. INSANE AND UNFAIR! go elsewhere!!
