General Info
BIO: Born into a musical family, Chad Wade studied piano as a child and purchased his first guitar at age 14. He studied the electric guitar with Greg Nipp and played in several bands throughout high school and college. He later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he studied classical guitar under Cuban Master Mario Abril. Chad has been teaching both private and group guitar lessons to different ages and skill levels for over seven years. He is currently an instructor for Taylor Robinson Music and LearnByCam. LESSON CONTENT: I teach the fingerstyle technique and repertoire of classical guitar. This technique can be applied to different kinds of guitars (steel-string acoustic, electric, etc.) and can serve as an excellent foundation to other musical styles (jazz, blues, country, rock, etc.), but can only be effectively learned on a true classical guitar. Beginning students will be guided through First Lessons for Guitar: Volume 1 by Julio S. Sagreras (which I will provide for $5). Students will also acquire the classic etudes of Sor, Carcassi, Villa-Lobos, and Brouwer, later exploring the rich diversity of classical guitar repertoire from the Renaissance, Baroque, Romantic, and Modern eras. PRIVATE OR GROUP INSTRUCTION: Students may choose to receive private or group lessons. The private lesson is recommended for the serious student as the more effective lesson because it allows the personalized attention necessary to most efficiently advance in skill level. However, the group lesson is still a fun way to learn the basics of guitar with the added advantage that students are able to learn from the strengths and weaknesses of other players in the group. Students of group lessons will be encouraged to play duos, trios, etc. 1/2 HOUR OR HOUR: Students may choose to receive ½ hour or hour lessons. The hour lesson is recommended as the more effective lesson, simply because of the amount of time it takes to adequately teach and learn the sometimes-difficult concepts and skills of guitar. The hour lesson also allows the incorporation of further study such as music theory, ear training, sight-reading, etc. The better value in price is an additional incentive to choose the hour lesson. ONLINE INSTRUCTION: Don't live near Stamford? I also offer lessons through online video IM tools like Skype. Visit my "Learn By Cam" profile at lbc.me/chadwadeguitar> for more details. THE FIRST LESSON IS FREE GUITAR RENTALS: Many of my students/parents have been justifiably concerned about purchasing an expensive instrument, only to find out weeks later that they/their child no longer want(s) to play the guitar. If you’re not ready to commit to purchasing an instrument, I will be happy to rent one to you for $20 a week. You can rent for as long as you like until you decide to stop the lessons. You must purchase the guitar if it is unreasonably damaged. chadwadeguitar.com.
