If I could give them zero stars I would! Paid $1,000 AFTER insurance for work on my 5 year olds teeth only to be told that 6 months later it all needed to be redone because it wasn’t done properly by them the first time and they expected me to pay for the redo! On top of that they didn’t clean one of the cavities out properly before they filled it so it got worse and the tooth had to be pulled! My 7 year old also had a tooth filled by them that again didn’t get cleaned properly before being filled resulting in him having a tooth pulled as well! Do yourself and your babies a favor and go see Dr. Gardner instead! We haven’t had a single issue since switching to him and he and his staff are amazing!!!

Dental Examination
X-rays
There is very little risk in dental X-rays. Pediatric dentists are especially careful to limit the amount of radiation to which children are exposed. Lead aprons and high-speed film are used to ensure safety and minimize the amount of radiation.
Oral Cancer Screening
At the time of six month check-ups, we evaluate for cavities, eruption of teeth and discuss concerns of the child’s oral hygiene habits. It’s important to discuss how and when your child is brushing and flossing. We identify any medical conditions that can put your child at higher risk for cavities. We suggest radiographs (x-rays) every six months to check between teeth for cavities, formation and eruption of teeth. Radiographs also allow us to see other concerns that we are unable to see visually and can aid in our oral cancer screening portion of the exam.

Teeth Cleaning
Fluoride Treatment
Our team is excellent at showing proper techniques for brushing twice a day and flossing at least once. We give each child one on one time to talk about what is healthy and unhealthy and how to keep a bright smile. After the exam, we place a fluoride treatment that helps prevent cavities. It’s important to know if you water contains fluoride. We recommend a fluoride supplement if fluoride is not in your families main water source or your child drinks all bottled water. Dental Sealants
Sealants do exactly what they sound like, they seal out food and plaque to reduce the risk of tooth decay. Made of clear or shaded resins, sealants are applied to protect the grooved and pitted surfaces of children’s teeth from cavities—especially the chewing surfaces of back teeth where most cavities occur. Sealants are affordable and can be applied quickly and easily in one visit, and your child will be able to eat right after the appointment. Once applied, they last for a long time and can help protect teeth throughout the most cavity-prone years. However, it’s important to remember that they are not a replacement for brushing and flossing; they’re just one step in the effort to keep your child cavity free. Our sealants have a two year warranty and will be repaired and replaced as needed at cleaning visits.
Space Maintainers
If a tooth is lost earlier than naturally expected, it is very important to hold the space for the permanent tooth to come in. If the space is left unattended, there can be closure of the space or drifting of adjacent teeth. This is where the tooth beside it can move forward and block the permanent tooth from coming in. Some of the space maintainers can be made chairside so the child will not have to come back to the office for placement. Other spacers will take a week as this allows time to be made at the lab.

Fillings
Resin Composite
Fillings are the most common restorative procedure regarding children. Whenever a child has a cavity, the doctor will remove the decayed portion of the tooth. Then a tooth colored material known as resin composite is used to fill in the tooth. The procedure is very safe and can be completed in one visit.
Crowns
1. Pick up the tooth by the crown (the chewing surface) NOT the root. Locate the tooth immediately; don't leave it at the site of the accident. Handle the tooth carefully when you pick it up, and never touch the root of the tooth, only the crown (chewing surface).
Dental Bonding

Pulpotomy
When a tooth has a bad cavity, the pulp of the tooth is exposed. This can be very painful, because the sensitive nerves and tissue are vulnerable. If your child is complaining of a toothache, it might be because he has a large cavity. In this case, we’ll need to do a pulpotomy to remove the damaged pulp. A pulpotomy is a fairly common procedure for decayed baby molars.

Orthodontics
There are some procedures that we can do here in the office that can lessen the amount of time your child may need orthodontics. One of these things is a procedure called discing, where the doctor reduces the size of the primary tooth to make room for the permanent teeth to move into the proper position with the help of the tongue.

Braces
Your child’s growth and development is evaluated at each hygiene visit. Your child benefit from early interceptive orthodontics here in our office or be referred to an orthodontist for alignment of the teeth. There are some procedures that we can do here in the office that may lessen the amount of time your child will have to be in braces and improve the outcome. Dr. Hudkins and Dr. Rockne coordinate a plan with your orthodontist and work as a team throughout orthodontic treatment. Don’t forget to maintain your hygiene appointments at Smile Zone every 6 months throughout orthodontic care! This is an easy time to get cavities and home care requires extra work.
