Oral Cancer Screening
Benign conditions of the oral cavity can often mimic precancerous or cancerous lesions. Oral cancer screenings should be performed at least once per year, and more often if you are at an elevated risk of developing oral cancer. Your doctor may perform a number of tests or exams to determine the cause of any symptoms that you are experiencing and to diagnose the disease. Typically, a visual screening is first conducted to identify any abnormal areas. Intraoral pictures are often taken to help document the appearance of the lesion on that specific date. A biopsy or tissue removal is usually the best way to determine a diagnosis, as the sample is sent to a pathology laboratory for analysis.

Periodontal Plastic Surgery refers to cosmetic procedures performed on the gums to enhance the appearance and health of the smile. Also referred to as gum reduction surgery, crown lengthening may be a recommendation when too much gum tissue is present. This periodontal plastic surgery procedure can be rendered in two forms and is most often performed by a dental professional.

To ensure a secure fit and reduce the risk of complications associated with traditional dentures, implant supported dentures are attached to a set of advanced dental implants. These can be removed for cleaning but patients also have the option to receive fixed implant supported dentures, both of which function just like your healthy natural teeth.

Dental Implants
Patients who have lost teeth in the upper premolar or molar areas of the jaw often require a sinus lift, or sinus augmentation, in order to have dental implants placed. This can be due to circumstances in which the bone in the area where teeth are missing naturally beings to shrink or resorb over time, the roots of the teeth were originally positioned either very close to or within the sinus cavity, or the vertical height of the bone is not sufficient enough to support an implant. As a result of bone loss, the sinuses can expand to occupy the empty space where the bone used to be. With insufficient bone to securely place a dental implant, a sinus lift is necessary to move the sinus away from the roots of the teeth or to create additional bone in the area.

Gum Surgery
Only a small percentage of Americans diagnosed with gum disease actually pursue treatment. Gum disease may be linked to health problems such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and premature delivery. Until recently, patients with periodontal disease had to undergo painful gum surgery that involved incisions and sutures. Many periodontists, including Dr. Vance, now offer LANAP
Tooth Extractions
Dental extractions are performed for a variety of reasons, including tooth decay, injury, infection, and for orthodontic treatment. Extractions are a relatively common procedure in our dental office. The difficulty of the procedure varies depending on the case and the patient, however, the gentle nature of treatment remains the same. In addition, anesthesia is used to numb the area and prevent discomfort during the procedure.
Bone Grafting
There are two forms of sinus lift procedures. The form that you receive depends upon your individual needs and the amount of bone that is present. Your doctor will discuss your options prior to the procedure. Before the procedure begins, a local anesthetic is administered to numb the site. In one form of the sinus lift procedure, the doctor will create a small opening in the bone to access the sinus cavity. Using a small instrument, the doctor will gently lift the sinus into a more favorable position. This procedure helps to encourage natural bone growth to fill the space created, but a bone grafting material is often placed beneath the newly raised sinus cavity along the existing bone. This grafting material will then mesh with your existing bone, thus creating more bone.
