Jaw Surgery
Orthognatic surgery is surgery to correct a malformation of the jaw. It is performed in conjunction with orthodontic treatment that is started before the surgery and continues after the surgery. This procedure is performed in a hospital and usually requires a 2 to 3 day stay for recovery.
Maxillofacial Surgery
Inspired by a PBS special on facial reconstruction, Dr. Stephen Goei started his journey to become an oral surgeon. He attended Loma Linda School of Dentistry and graduated in 1986. He practiced general dentistry for three years before attending his first year of Oral and Maxillofacial internship at Vanderbilt University. He then continued his Oral and Maxillofacial surgery residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center where he finished with a Masters in 1993
Tooth Extractions
Extractions are performed for a wide variety of reasons, including tooth decay that has destroyed enough tooth structure to prevent restoration. Extraction of teeth that are not impacted and are fully erupted are considered simple surgical extractions. Any dentist can perform a tooth extraction, however an oral surgeon is specialized in extraction of teeth.
Ridge Augmentation
Often a bone graft is required prior to placement of dental implants. If there is lack of sufficient bone in an area where an implant is required, a ridge augmentation procedure can be performed. This procedure is used to bring back the lost bone after the bone has resorbed and there is insufficient ridge height or width.

Emma has worked in our office since 2002. She has over 15 years of dental assisting experience with a background in general dentistry and orthodontics as well as oral surgery. She holds an active X-ray and registered dental assisting license with the state of California. Emma is a certified CPR instructor and gives cpr classes for healthcare providers through the American Heart Association. In her spare time, Emma enjoys spending time with her husband and 3 children.
