Blue Lake Animal Care Center is simply the best! The Dr. Powell and Dr. Sears and staff are exceptional, show that they truly care for my pet, and are very competent in what they do.

We've been coming to Dr. Powell for 15 years. I could not more highly recommend this knowledgable, caring, thoughtful, and experienced vet and his kind team. When I moved away from Tahoe to SF, I tried out several ( some in north lake some in SF - approx. 7) new vets for my senior pups, and found out first hand that I had already had the best vet in northern California. I now travel up from SF to come see Dr. Powell for anything I consider important. The doctors and staff at Blue Lake Animal Center treat you like family because you are family. There is only one place to take your fur babies and every knowledgeable local knows it. They're services, labs, procedures, and even surgeries are super affordable compared to every vet I've priced out in the basin also. Our chocolate lab had a rare illness/ cancer no vet in North Lake was able to diagnose after thousands of dollars; Dr. Powell was able diagnose her dynamic situation to the full extent... and surprisingly affordably. His extensive experience coupled with genuine care and relentless passion for helping animals enables their team to be the super squad they are. We were so pleased to see after 20 years at Alpine Hospital, Dr. Powell had opened his own practice at Blue Lake Animal Care. When I stepped in my heart smiled because the team is so happy to be there, there is a big comfy waiting room, and there was yoga mat like tile padding on the floors for my senior pup - THAT thoughtfulness alone made me so happy. There was a comfy waiting room and a separate one for any extra scared or aggressive animals. The facility itself does LOTS of the testing in house which is refreshing for both the wallet and a time saver getting results back! Also, this is the only vet in my experience that recommend tests, x rays, etc AS TRULY NEEDED instead of just testing for everything and then more like most vets these days unfortunately.

This veterinarian is professional, knowledgeable, and was able to diagnose a difficult and uncommon medical condition after three other veterinarians had missed it. He understands the idea that our pets, while animals, are a part of our family. We drive from San Francisco, as often as needed, to have him care for our pets. We have three cats and a 132 pound dog. He is someone you can trust your pets' care to, without concern. He genuinely cares.
