John Perkins and Lawrence ( Laurie ) Smith officially created their company Perkins Smith Design Build in 2002. After working together on projects over a seven year period, they realized they shared a passion for good design, excellent craftsmanship, old houses and sustainable building practices. They each brought over 30 years of experience in the building industry to the partnership, as well as complementary skills and a personal dynamic that has allowed their business to flourish. John and Laurie were "green builders" long before green was in and have always been committed to creating homes that make sense: that are well-sited within their natural surroundings, make use of energy saving design and materials and utilize mechanical systems that reduce environmental impact. John and Laurie believe that working hard and having fun are not mutually exclusive and their business practices and jobsites reflect this philosophy. When not on the job they can be found boating on Lake Champlain or skiing one of Vermont's many peaks. why choose perkins smith Building or remodeling your home can be one of life's most personal and challenging undertakings. Although this requires much of a homeowner, including time, creativity, decision-marking and financial investment, it should be a fun and gratifying process. At Perkins Smith we strive to make this process as enjoyable as possible through positive and consistent communication with our clients and the team creating their home. Perkins Smith Design Build has intentionally remained a small company, enabling owners John Perkins and Laurie Smith to be directly involved in each project. We are supported by a highly-skilled team of carpenters and subcontractors with passion for their chosen professions. They enjoy working together and with each of our clients. The Perkins Smith team includes a BPI certified energy specialist who works closely with Efficiency Vermont. We provide whole house energy audits and help interested homeowners maximize available energy incentives as part of their remodeling process. Perkins Smith has excellent project management systems in place and provides clients with consistent, up-to-date information on their projects. We maintain an efficient production schedule and see each project through to the last details. Perkins Smith takes great pride in being able to deliver the living space each client dreams of within a budget they can afford.
