Teeth Cleaning
A professional dental cleaning takes about 30 minutes and should be performed every six months to prevent excessive plaque buildup. Plaque left untreated can lead to unhealthy gums and tooth decay. A routine dental cleaning should include scaling, root planing and polishing.
Dental Sealants
Sealants are a preventive treatment in dentistry intended to protect teeth which may have fine grooves or pits that accumulate plaque overtime. These grooves create a problem because the grooves are too narrow to allow even one bristle into them, not because the person doesn't brush. When plaque accumulates, it can lead to cavities and other types of tooth decay. To apply sealants, a plastic material is brushed onto the tooth, filling these narrow grooves and preventing the cavity-causing buildup.

My professional career in dentistry started 17 years ago at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. I furthered my education by completing a 2 year Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency. Significant achievements in my career include when I attained Board Certification by the American Board of General Dentistry. Currently, only 1 percent of general dentists have achieved this prestigious Board Certification status. Another significant achievement was attaining Fellowship status in the Academy of General Dentistry. Only 24 dentists in the Commonwealth have attained this professional distinction and I am proud to be counted among them. I served 6 years in the United States Army as a dental officer and in 2014 I left the Army after I received promotion to Major and returned to civilian life as owner of Somerset Family Dentistry. Since that time our office has continued to expand the range of clinical services offered and are proud to deliver some of the most innovative and cutting edge dental treatment available.
