NIGHTMARE HOSPITAL

I made it out alive somehow. Don't ever go to this hospital!!! I was in the iCU for 4 days. I thought I would die many times. I was in DKA. They caused a blood clot in my arm by trying 3x to insert a new iv line. I had a bowel blockage- I was sure I would die then. I was in severe distress and no doctor came for 4 hours. I had to pull the poop out of me myself! This caused a dvt I'm sure. I wasn't anti coagulated: I should have been since DKA causes metabolic changes which make clots more likely as does being immobilized for 4 days. When I got up off my hospital bed to leave I had pain in my leg. My nurse said it was low potassium-(this nurse also told me I should go with the flow and be making friends there!! While I was immobilized in DKA with 2 iv lines and monitors all over me: I'm going to walk around and make friends?) I had had a potassium of 2 in DKA. It was a DVT. Severe pain and my ortho brought me back to the ER- I was admitted for the DVT for 4 more days. My vision had gone totally blurry from DKA. They wouldn't get an opthomologist: the case doctor came back after my family left and yelled at me!!! I was told I would get home care when I was released but no one ever called me. They didn't bill be for the second stay when my insurance denied it because I told them I would sue them for releasing me with a DVT. A week later I found out I had an infection and a vaginal tear from the blockage. I have permanent damage from the complications. I still want to sue this hospital and some of the doctors. One of my friends told me later her father died there shortly after my stay. They messed everything up with him. I was lucky to survive. I think I have ptsd from all of this. It was a NIGHTMARE.

WORST hospital Long Island has to offer!

Today’s 12-hour visit to this hospitals ER resulted in me having to take out my own IV as no nurse would do it, and the nurse assigned to me was “too busy”. The hospital has an extremely cramp, virtually no privacy, dirty (as blood spots were evident on some of the curtains) emergency room. The doctors and RN’s were rude and didn’t have the time of day for their patients as most were to busy having full out conversations on their cell phones or busy figuring out what they are going to be eating this weekend with one another. Also I noticed that staff never informed their patients what they were doing and just did. The doctors and nurses when encountered with a patient who spoke another language they would just assume, and repeat to the patient I don’t understand you. At one point I had interject when a nurse was trying to help a Russian speaking. The Russian women clearly kept saying water and the nurse kept repeating I can’t understand you. Although their support staff especially their x-ray technicians were great! Horrible hospital and I would never go back or allow any of my loved ones to step foot through their doors.

DO not go to ST. Catherines

The aides and doctors were great but upon my visit I witnessed a supervisor getting very irate to an employee, and this is simply not okay with me. The employees are what make this hospital because we have the most contact with them. The supervisor continued to embarass and yell at the employee within earshot of patients, totally inappropriate. For this reason I will never come back to this hospital. I am proud to say I have a found a great home at Mather hospital for all my future needs.
