The Classics Restaurant

I used to come here often until recently and after that visit I will never return, if only I had read reviews before! The food was good as usual and the service was fine however the owner was outwardly mean and vicious to to his guests. There was a table near us that was dining with their children, (a Sunday at 5:00 with a nearly empty dining room) one of the children stepped out of the booth and before the child's father could get him, the owner came up, grabbed the child and tossed him back in the booth. He then turned to the parents and berated them for the child's behavior and told them to leave. He later turned to us (we were there celebrating my father in law's birthday with my wife, her mother and out tow children ages 2 and 4). The children were watching an iphone though the meal. He told us that our children were unruly and to "just pay the damned bill and get the hell out!" Neither our children nor the other family's children were unruly or disruptive. If they did not want children in the dining room, we would have preferred the staff to tell us up front. After the tirade we were subjected to by the owner, my wife left in tears. We will never go back! From what I have read, this is common behavior from the owner. Apparently, from other reviews I have read, this is common behavior by the owner.

HORRIBLE HOST!!! Treated my husband and I like DIRT. We were really looking forward to a nice steak after Thanksgiving turkey. We've been there before and the steaks are very good. However, we never had the opportunity to eat there, because the host was such a complete JERK. I called ahead to make a reservation in the dining room. They only had a reservation for 8:30--later than what we wanted, but the person on the phone said if we came early they should be able to fit us in sooner, because they keep a certain number of tables open for walk-ins. So we got there around 8:00. The host tried to seat us in the bar, but we said we preferred the dining room since it's a much nicer place to sit than the tables in the bar. He asked if we had a reservation and we told him we had one for 8:30. So he said that he would get us into the dining room as soon as another table left. We said we would have a drink at the bar while we waited for a table. The host told us it would be just a few minutes and said that the table should be ready by the time we paid our tab at the bar. So we paid the tab and still no table was ready. However he assured us we would have a table within a few more minutes. Meanwhile, he let not one, but TWO other groups who didn't even reservations have tables right away when they came into the restaurant. We let the first one slide. But when my husband questioned why he allowed the second group in ahead of us the host got really belligerent with my husband and said our reservation wasn't until 8:30 and if we didn't like it we could LEAVE! Apparently the tables that the other two groups were seated at were not officially part of the dining room. The place is really small and, to the average person walking in, they look like the are in the dining room--definitely NOT part of the bar. The host never even offered those tables as an option to us when we said we preferred not to be in the bar. Of course this didn't sit too well with my husband or me and things got a little heated. And we were THROWN OUT by the the host and bartender. I've never in my life have been asked to leave a restaurant in my life. Crazy!!! They clearly need some customer service training at Ray's. We've been treated better at APPLEBEES!
