Bursitis occurs when bursae become inflamed. Commonly this inflammation occurs with injury or repetition and overuse, but sometimes infection may cause it. Bursitis can be associated with arthritis, gout, tendonitis, diabetes, and thyroid disease.

Ultrasound
All procedures at Spine & Pain Centers of New Jersey & New York are performed with fluoroscopic guidance (live X-Ray) or ultrasound guidance for accurate placement of the medications at the correct site and avoiding injecting the wrong location. All procedures are performed with the current standard of care. Dr. Sharma sits on several committees of the International Spine Intervention Society and the North American Spine Society and has been involved in writing guidelines.
MRI
After the initial evaluation and review of the MRI, the Patient is scheduled for only one injection and then seen in 2 weeks for a follow-up visit. If no relief is noted, then no more injections are planned unless the level is changed. If partial relief is noted, then two more injections can be done over 6 to 8 weeks. We limit the number of injections to 4/year to avoid the side effects of the steroid.
Radiology
After graduating, Ann started out in specialties such as cardiothoracic surgery, interventional radiology and clinical research. In 2006 she was introduced to pain management, where she found her passion and has remained ever since. In 2015 she joined Dr. Sharma and his amazing team at Spine & Pain Centers. She is involved in the critical thinking, care, implementation and treatment of all patients. She attends monthly peer meetings with Dr. Sharma to further her education. She co-published a review article with Dr. Sharma in an anesthesiology journal.

Sciatica
Sciatica is pain, tingling, or numbness produced by an irritation of the nerve roots that lead to the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is formed by the nerve roots coming out of the spinal cord into the lower back. It goes down through the buttock; then, its branches extend down the back of the leg to the ankle and foot.
Whiplash
Whiplash is a neck injury due to forceful, rapid back-and-forth movement of the neck. It can cause neck pain, decreased range of motion, tightness in the neck, and headaches.
