The eye conditions and treatments that are listed below are the most common ones that are encountered.
Macular Degeneration
Macular Degeneration, also known as Age-Related Macular Degeneration or AMD, is a leading cause of blindness in the world, and is the number one cause of legal blindness in the older population in the United States.
Laser Eye Surgery
LASIK is the most exciting recent addition to the refractive surgery tools of the modern eye surgeon. Dr. Goldstein uses the VISX Star S4 excimer laser to perform individualized LASIK with CustomVue technology. The most current advance in LASIK is the use of the femto laser to perform bladeless LASIK surgery.
Cataracts
Cataracts are an age-related problem with the natural lens of the eye. As we age, the lens becomes thicker, and begins to harden and become cloudy. So, cataracts are actually a problem WITHIN the lens of the eye, not a skin or covering over the eye. There are several varieties of cataracts, and they can cause different symptoms. The three most common types are nuclear cataracts, cortical cataracts, and posterior subcapsular cataracts (PSC’s).
Cataract Surgery
When a patient develops significant cataracts, surgery is the solution to the problem. LASER cataract surgery considerably improves the chances of a successful procedure and reduces overall downtime afterward.
Eye Exam
Many individuals are straining their eyes without even knowing it. Minor annoyances, such headaches, are often related to issues with your vision. Your doctor can recommend simple solutions during your eye exam.

Internal Medicine
Dr. Goldstein is a proud alumnus of the University of Michigan pre-medical program. He completed medical school in 1990, graduating from Wayne State University with honors. After completing a year of internal medicine at Sinai Hospital, Dr. Goldstein completed a 3-year residency there, including a stint as Chief Resident. He is the recipient of two patient care awards, the Joseph Wahlers Award for Excellence in Patient Care, and the H. Saul Sugar Award for Education in Ophthalmology. In addition, he was recently selected as one of “America’s Top Ophthalmologists” by the Consumers’ Research Council of America. Dr. William Goldstein is on the Editorial Board for Eye Health Web.

The most potential for a threat to vision is the corneal ulcer. In this case, bacteria penetrates the surface of the cornea, causing an infection that appears as a white spot. If untreated, this infection can penetrate and cause infection inside the eye.
