Rich, the mechanic who founded and owns Green River Auto, came from a shop in Guilford, VT with the best reputation in this entire part of New England. Rich has a strong reputation on car-repair forums as an exceptionally good mechanic with a solid, honest system of values. The reason I found this out is that I am a little bit of a gear-head, having taken apart antique tractors and done repairs on an old flathead V-8 Ford sedan, for instance, and I also happen to be a women in my 60s. So when we moved to this new part of the country (to me) and needed a mechanic, I went to the gear-head discussion boards where guys who work on their own cars and trucks advise one another about where to go in the event of a problem that's too big or too baffling for a backyard effort. Based on what they said, I went to Green River Auto. And they were absolutely right about Rich and his shop! One of the mechanics who works with Rich, Doug, is also a used-car buyer for customers. When I told Doug what we're looking for and how much we could spend for a vehicle that's not all that commonly available in this part of the country, he listened carefully, asked important questions, then FOUND exactly what we were looking for! He was able to negotiate a great deal on it for us, brought it back to the shop, and they went through and fixed it up to make sure it was up to their standards of excellence before delivering it – all within our budget. This shop is a class act all the way, and every mechanic we met there was first-rate. I've lived all over the country, 8 states from Texas to California and back in just the last 30 years, and this is hands-down THE best shop I've found. And believe me, I work hard to find the best mechanic in every place I live. There have been a lot of good ones, too. But Green River Auto and Rich and Doug are the best. You cannot go wrong with them. Whether you just need a good mechanic for a vehicle you already own, or need to find a superior used vehicle and make sure it's reliable the moment you take possession, Green River is the place to go.
