OK, look, a French drain is a fairly well understood construction project and there really isn't much variation in how one company does it versus another. That's the reality of it. To differentiate themselves and try to mark up with a premium, many companies will try to give you what I call the "shock and awe" sales pitch where they shock you with all of the issues you could have and then awe you with how they will fix it with their French drain.



In the process of selecting DryMaster, I dealt with many different companies and got quotes ranging from 2x to 3x what DryMaster gave for more or less the same work (at the end of the day, it's just a French drain). Many of these companies give you a that pitch where they want your spouse with you so that you are more likely to make an impulse decision and to feed that, they give you a "price if you sign today". I threw out A-1 Basement Solutions because the sales guy said he could give me $5000 off if I signed today. I asked what is the difference if I sign today or tomorrow? I think that really threw him for a loop because he wasn't used to being called out on his BS!



But look, even I was concerned that Bud was undercutting the other contractors by so much that before I made the final decision, I called him and asked him point blank how he could possibly do the same work at the quote he gave me? Bud told me "There's only one way to do it and we don't cut corners". I know I took a chance with such a large project, but I bit the bullet. Well, I'm happy to report that I'm a satisfied customer.



All along the project, I was able to watch the crew at work to ensure that it was being done correctly. They dug out the concrete 10-12 inches from the wall. They carried out all of the concrete and old stone. They brought in new stone. They dug down to the footer and laid the ADS perforated pipe. They put in a new, sealed crock. They installed the specified sump pumps. The crew tested the sump pump and ensured that the drainage was unimpeded. They drilled every core of every block and covered it with Mira-Drain. They disinfected TWICE with a bio-cide. They laid the specified bagged concrete. When the inspector failed the initial plumbing connection, a crew came back and fixed it and it passed on the second inspection. Of course, this means that all necessary permits were pulled and all of the work was done to code.



During every phase, the crew laid tarps and kept the property as clean as possible and worked quickly.



Many times, if it seems "too good to be true", it probably is especially when dealing with contractors. But Bud is the real deal. I can't comment on how well it will perform yet but I'm satisfied with the construction of the French drain and would easily recommend DryMaster for anyone looking to install one.

They didn't try upsell me, though they could have! They taped off the work area carefully, kept the site orderly, and cleaned up very well when they were done. A contractor friend assessed their workmanship as being A1 quality. They were also extremely competitive on price.
