This has to be one of the worst rental experiences of all time. After reading this you'll see why my review is so long. We had squirrels living in our attic space and pigeons living on our deck. They covered up this fact long enough to get us moved in there and then the after a few days of being there we realized it. The people who work in the office are non responsive and seem to be too busy to worry about your little problems that apparently are too insignificant to deal with. The maintenance man is by far the worst handy man I have ever known. He knows less than we do about how to fix things. He would tell us to look up on the internet how to fix things. We spent months trying to get them to deal with it. Our apartment had a smell, and the dishwasher had a strange smell we couldn't pin point. The maintenance man came to try and fix the dishwasher once and flooded my kitchen, it was a mess. He also came to fix the oven and permanently damaged the kitchen floor with a couple holes with his tools. We were sick the entire time we lived there, always having respiratory problems. We were even admitted into the hospital for IV antibiotics for an aggressive skin infection we had. The handy man came multiple times trying to get the squirrels, but they never really did anything effective. After six months they patched up the hole where they were coming in. The exterminator they had come told us about the dangers, electric fires, health problems. I told them that and two of the maintenance men said that was silly. They told me the squirrels and pigeons had actually been there for years before we got there and that they thought it was their home now and would always come back. They told me not to worry because they wouldn't be there that much when the weather got warmer. It was one of the most stressful times of our lives. We felt hopeless. By the time we moved out they had never come to clean out the attic and the years worth of feces and nest that was up there. I doubt they ever did. The maintenance man also told us about the previous tenant and how he didn't care about the animals, and how when he moved out, they had to gut the entire apartment because of the trash and mold on the walls. We decided to cut our losses and just get out of there, we left very nicely and tried to just be nice so we could still use them as a rental reference for the future, although I really wanted to scream at them and leave a bad review. After we moved out we received a bill for $1,500. That's when the stress really began. After calling they reduced it to around $900 because they said they accidentally over charged us. They said they had gone into our apartment and smelled something strange, so they replaced all of the carpet. They did this without telling us. They did this for no reason! It wasn't because we damaged they're carpet, we're clean people. It is because there are piles of feces in the attic, something wrong with the plumbing probably, and I wouldn't be surprised if there is mold somewhere and they never properly took care of it. They seem to always be trying to save a buck, even if it means taking advantage of us. We suffered enough there. We were so angry. We wanted to sue, throw our medical bills at them. After fighting over the phone they reduced it to a little under $500. We found out you can't take them to court for under $500. Also, we didn't have any proof of what we were claiming because we didn't take pictures. Obviously they didn't give us our deposit back either so that's a total of $750 we lost, along with the hospital stay and the stress we went through which is worth all the money in the world. I regret not sticking up for myself. I regret not leaving sooner. I regret ever living there. I felt powerless and frustrated through the whole thing. It made me wiser and stronger though and I will never let that happen to me again.
