Four Paws Grooming Inc

My dog was VERY SERIOUSLY INJURED AND TRULY TRAUMATIZED by Four Paws. I should have written this review a long time ago, right after it happened, but I have never been a person to complain or make a big deal out of things. I should warn other dog parents, though, so hopefully no other animal has to go through what my dog went through. I brought my dog in for grooming. This led to an emergency vet visit. My dog had two areas (about 1-1.5 inches by .5 inches each) that had such bad razor burn, his skin was all red and had TONS OF TINY CUTS all over the whole area. They were in very sensitive spots, too – right under his tail and on the inside of his back leg joint, close to his “private” area. The vet said that the cuts were infected and she agreed that it had to be from the grooming – she even wrote that on the official report. She prescribed an oral antibiotic, and both oral and topical painkillers – it was that bad. It cost us over $250. Even worse was how traumatized he was. He just sat – he literally would not move or even stand, for fear of being hurt. He got terrified when anyone approached him. He wouldn’t even move a foot forward to get a piece of cheese. I worked with him to get him to gradually start moving a foot or two towards his food – even then, he would not stand up. He’d kind of scuttle, with his butt as close to the floor as possible. After a week, he finally stood up all the way and grabbed a toy – I was so happy and relieved that I literally cried.The vet sent the medical report directly to Four Paws, so they could see the extent of the injuries, and that the vet agreed that it was caused by grooming. Four Paws asked me to bring my dog in so they could see the injuries. I agreed at first – but that was before I saw how traumatized he was. Bringing him there would have terrified him beyond belief, and he had been through enough. I was also very ill and would have had trouble getting there anyway. When I finally spoke with Four Paws (we played phone tag a while, but that wasn’t their fault.), the person on the phone wouldn’t give me a chance to let her know why I didn’t bring my dog in. I barely got a chance to speak – she interrupted me, talked over me, and then hung up on me.Four Paws also tried to say that it was because my dog was difficult and snapping at the groomer – the poor thing was trying to protect himself from further pain! He had never had a problem with grooming before, at Four Paws or anywhere else.In the end, Four Paws sent me a letter. They refunded the cost of the grooming – but not the tip or the over $250 in medical costs. Even worse was their utter lack of integrity. They typed a short paragraph on a plain piece of paper saying that they showed the medical report to another vet, who said the injuries were probably caused by licking, not grooming – no vet’s name, let alone a vet’s report. Also, how could licking cause all those open cuts? And without the open wounds, how could it get infected? And why would the vet prescribe all that medicine? I was appalled at their FLAT OUT LIES.

I've brought both of my dogs here for a year now and have not had a bad experience. They are accommodating and very sweet. I have a pom-bichon & a lab and they do a great job on both.

I have to agree with the tons of other terrible reviews here that Four Paws is indeed quite sucky. And when I say quite sucky, I mean Quite Sucky. Here's what I think: the groomer there is a total scumbag who only wants your money and doesn't care about the animals. And I know I'm right about this. I witnessed her rudeness firsthand and she didn't even attempt to hide it. She honestly didn't even act like she was an animal lover at all. Why be a groomer if you hate the dogs? It's a shame that someone who works with animals has to behave like that. But she is a complete loser. Trust me on that one. If you don't want to take my word for it, read the slew of other nasty reviews here. Can that many people be lying? Take your doggies elsewhere - better to be safe than sorry. In addition to everything else, the grooming itself is decidedly half-assed. And that's putting it mildly. Four Paws: quite the sucky grooming place. It bears repeating, y'all.

The person who wrote the ONE good review here....you are a riot! It is probably the owner of Four Paws herself. Because I doubt that too many people who have been customers of this business would say with all sincerity that she is great with animals....don't make me laugh!! The owner of Four Paws is a scam artist and we all know it. What she does, she calls that grooming?? My God, she's Awful with a capital A!!!!

Do not go here! They are not as nice as they put themselves out to be! I took my dog here and I saw the way they treat the dogs. They only act on favoritism and treat the ones they don't like as rags! Especially the owner, who acts like everyone is beneath her.

I had my dog groomed here and they did an absolutely horrible job. Her haircut was sloppy and uneven. I am not one of those picky customers but I'd expected her to come out decent, she was nowhere near what I asked for. They were eager to get her out or the groomer just sucked, period. They didn't even put the bow in her hair correctly. They are a bunch of frauds, I think. She was supposed to be a cute fluffy dog but instead I got back a dog that looked like she gave herself her own haircut. The groomer tried to tell me she was difficult but I know she cooperated because she is used to grooming, and other groomers have told me how good she is. So I had to have her redone by somebody else, I did not want to but I will never again go back or refer anyone to them. Also I asked them to grind her nails and all they did was grind her front paws, and not very well either. I took my dog in with specific instructions but no one followed thru. For the price I paid I expected better

To the person below, are you kidding me? This place has such a bad reputation because the groomer does such poor work and because she's kind of rude to the customers. I know many people who would never come to this place, we've all been dissatisfied. I don't think the groomer here really has any clue about animals, and someone like that should not be in this type of business.

I have used the person who owns this business for over 7 years and have never been dissatisfied. All the negative reviews seem to come from one person who writes the same thing and interestingly enough all come from Griffin, IN. Since this place is in Schaumburg why would they come all the way to IL to groom their dog and it is also interesting they use the same language in every review. Don't listen to them. Jenn is great with animals.

I don't consider myself super picky when it comes to my dog's grooming, but this place didn't impress me at all. My dog just looked, well, terrible. He really didn't look all that clean and he did not have that fluffy softness to him. I would recommend going elsewhere.

The groomer here is a real piece of work -- awful at grooming and awful personality too. You will receive nasty attitude and a poorly groomed pet. This groomer is not trustworthy at all and has proven this time and again. Bad reviews all over the web, do not go here!
