General Info
Savannah Art Association Since 1920, the Savannah Art Association holds the distinction of being one of the oldest and continuingly active art organizations in the state of Georgia and the Southeast. Founded by Miles B. Lane. Sr. along with a group of other civic minded artists, the SAA was originally envisioned as an extension of the Telfair Academy of the Arts to promote community involvement and education. The Savannah Art Association continues the philosophies set forth by its founders to be a strong cultural presence in the community by offering events, workshops, and classes designed to nurture and maintain an interest in the visual arts for all, regardless of race, education, or background. The SAA has also united with the Telfair Museums to further the cause for the need for visual arts in Savannah through volunteer efforts, as well as partnered with area businesses willing to highlight the art of SAA members. Past presidents have included such venerable artists as Ray Ellis, Ann Osteen, Sandy Brannan, Mrs. Mills B. Lane, Sr., Frank Bryson, Jim Chirbas, Grace Roland, Carolyne Graham, Jack Miller, Alice Blank, and Darla Elam. As we look to the future, it is the SAA's hope to keep the light of the visual arts bright for future Savannians and anyone who visits this energetic and culturally diverse city.
