Billy was a customer of mine at my old business so I gave him a shot even though he is a very strange fellow. He did a good job for me on the first job. I was happy to call him again for a second job, now throwing about $80k his way.

He takes a $10k deposit and vanishes. Doesn't return phone calls for weeks after the job was supposed to start. Finally after threatening to get attorneys involved, I get a call back. He says he just didn't know how to tell me he overbooked himself and couldn't do the job anymore. My guess is he just underbid it and decided he didn't want to do it.

Now anybody doing a $150k+ project for their business knows its time sensitive. Instead of being honest, Billy left me hanging weeks after the job was supposed to be complete and I had to start over finding a new contractor to finish it. So he put us well over 6 weeks behind schedule!

Give him a call. Meet with him and you'll very quickly realize he's a bit of an odd and greasy guy. Trust your gut, I should have trusted mine instead of trusting Billy.

I will say that if you can actually get him to do the work, he does a good job. But do you really have the time to handcuff him to your wrist? There are other contractors out there, I recommend finding them.
