Overall
Dead Promises

My brother and I came here in search for a daybed with a trundle, which is quite hard to find nowadays, at least, they're not commonly sold.

There are three large furniture shops on Alvarado that neighbor each other, so we stopped by to take a look. Best Buy Furniture was our first stop.

They didn't have any daybed/trundles on floor at the shop but could have it ordered from their catalog at $350, not including tax, and would have it available in three days. $350+ was pulling tight on our budget, so we told them we would look around some more.

The shop next door didn't have a daybed/trundle on their floor, and they sold their daybed/trundle (from the same catalog) at $400, not including tax. Forget that!

The last of the three shops had one daybed/trundle in black, which was not the color we wanted. He said we could purchase our desired daybed from the catalog (same catalog as the other shops) for $350, have it ready to pick up in 2-3 days and would not include sales tax! We loved that, but looking around the shop it came across as, well, a shabby place. The man smelled like beer and cigarettes. We weren't too sure if we could trust him, so we put our haggling hats on and returned to Best Buy Furniture to see if they wouldn't mind bargaining a bit.

We informed them of the deal their neighbor was offering us - same catalog, same bed style, better shipping, and no sales tax. We asked if they could give us a reason as to why we should purchase from them. The owner (mother I believe) said there was nothing she could do about it because they were already giving us the lowest price they could afford. But her son (I think) contradicted her and said they would sell it to us for $350 not including sales tax and have it in by Monday. He said he would pick it up himself from the manufacturer.

He then railed about how he disliked it when his neighbors created crazy deals that pressured them to "lower" their prices. He explained the whole process he goes through to make sure the quality of the furniture is not scratched or tarnished when it arrives to the shop, etc.

We could see he did a lot to make sure the customers were satisfied - so we thought. But we wanted to talk it over a little before making a final decision. We asked if he would let us think about it. He said yes, but if we took one step out side the door, he would dissolve the whole deal.

He was definitely a hot-head, we could tell, but he came across as a hard worker and their shop came across as more reliable than any of the rest. They had been in business there for 27 years, so we decided to go with them.

He promised to give us the same deal as the neighbor and would have the daybed/trundle for us by next Monday, Tuesday latest. This was on Thursday.

The next day he calls to tell us the manufacturer had yet to restock on daybeds, and he wouldn't be able to get us one by Monday. He said he could get it by Wednesday/Thursday. After promising Monday, now he changes to Wednesday or Thursday. But OK, we're willing to wait a few more days. He said he would call us Tuesday to tell us whether the daybed was arriving Wednesday or Thursday. Tuesday comes, no call. WE call HIM. He has no information on whether the daybed will arrive on Wednesday or Thursday. Wednesday comes. WE call HIM. It will be delayed until NEXT WEEK.

That was the final straw. We canceled our order and bought a daybed/trundle from craigslist. It cost $50 more than what we intended to spend, but at least we got it fast and the same style from the catalog.

I give this place a 2 star for it's hot-headed and dead promise workers. If you purchase from them, purchase from what they have available on the floor, and if by catalog, know you will have long delays.
