We have been fortunate to have been involved with Great Shape, Inc!/1000 Smiles for the past few years, as supporters and volunteers: This project provides free access to dental care and education to families in the Caribbean. Over 350 volunteers join 1000 Smiles each year to provide people with fillings, extractions, cleanings, sealants, dentures, and oral health education in temporary dental clinics and schools. Each week of the project, a staff of 45 volunteers provides treatment to several hundred patients. Yah mon!

Root Canal Treatment
Your teeth and the surrounding structures may require the additional knowledge and experience of an endodontist to perform root canal therapy or a restorative dentist to repair damage or create new teeth. Fortunately, dental implants have progressed and can replace the function and cosmetic appearance of natural teeth.

Deep Cleaning
Additional time has been scheduled between appointments for thorough deep cleaning of the treatment rooms, as well as the reception and administrative areas.

Dentures
You should not put your prosthetic teeth in immediately after surgery. You will have some instructions prior to surgery, but Dr. Michael Chan, Dr. Kirsten Rittenbach, or Dr. Brian Yang will inform you when you can begin wearing your partial dentures, full dentures, or flippers.
Overdentures
There are different options for the number of dental implants recommended based on whether the prosthesis is removable or fixed. An overdenture (removable prosthesis) attaches to a bar or ball in socket, and you can remove it yourself, while a dentist can only remove a fixed prosthesis. Some dentures are permanently attached to dental implants, giving you permanent teeth that you brush and floss like your original smile. For qualified patients who want these permanent implant-supported dentures, you can have your smile restored in one visit.

Dental Implants
All-on-4, or immediate dental implants, is a term for a specific implant procedure that uses at least four locations to replace your top or bottom teeth completely. While other methods use six to eight dental implants, All-on-4 dental implants employs a special technique for angling the implants so that they can support all of the new teeth.

Jaw Surgery
Dr. Michael Chan is a native San Franciscan and a graduate of Lick-Wilmerding High School. After completing his B.S. degree in Animal Physiology and Neurosciences at the University of California, San Diego, he returned home to receive his D.D.S. degree from the University of California, San Francisco in 2000. Dr. Chan then completed his training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2004 at King-Drew Medical Center in affiliation with Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and Kaiser Permanente Medical Center. At these facilities, Dr. Chan had extensive training in the full scope of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery including: Office-based anesthesia, Corrective & reconstructive jaw surgery, Surgical management of oral pathology, Dental implantology, Trauma surgery, and Non-surgical/surgical management of tempromandibular joint disorders.
Gum Surgery
Once the tooth is in its final position, the condition of the surrounding gum is evaluated to ensure that it is healthy and strong enough to function normally. In some cases, particularly when an impacted tooth needs to be shifted further, some minor gum surgery may be required to protect the tooth.
Maxillofacial Surgery
San Francisco patients who experience facial trauma in the form of car accidents, sports injuries, or other traumatic circumstances often require extensive care to restore their appearance. Ridge Augmentation
Bone grafting for dental implants. This includes onlay and inlay grafts, sinus lift procedures, ridge augmentation, and the closure of cleft lip and palate defects.
Bone Grafting
