Pediatric Care
Both the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) support delayed umbilical cord clamping in preterm infants for 30-60 seconds after delivery. For term infants, ACOG states that there is currently insufficient evidence to routinely recommend delayed umbilical cord clamping.
Primary Care
The Seasonal Flu Vaccine is now available in our office for any IGO patient. Other family members or contacts are asked to visit their primary care physician or a local clinic for immunization.
Male Infertility
The first test for male infertility is an analysis of his semen. Usually the man is asked to bring a sample of his semen into the laboratory for examination and analysis. Semen analysis includes a check of the sperm morphology (shape and appearance), a measurement of the volume and pH, a computerized analysis of the sperm count and movement characteristics, and semen cultures (to detect bacterial and mycoplasma infections). If there is any question about the findings, additional tests may be conducted or the husband may be referred to a urologist (a doctor who specializes in matters involving the urinary tract, testes, and related reproductive organs).
Emergency Care
Our office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. There is a physician on call for after-hours emergencies until 11:00 p.m. After 11:00 p.m., patients with emergency concerns are directed to go to Labor & Delivery or the Emergency Room at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. The hospital will contact the IGO Medical on-call physician.
Colonoscopy
According to the American Cancer Society, colon cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in the United States. The IGO Medical physicians recognize the importance of early detection. We work closely with gastroenterologists at UCSD as well as several community gastroenterologists in order to help you schedule your colonoscopy.
Immunizations
Please bring a list of all medications and supplements you are currently taking with you to this visit. Your doctor can also review your risk for conditions that may affect your pregnancy and you can receive any needed vaccinations.

Labor and Delivery
IGO patients deliver at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, where the staff provides superior care in a modern, state-of-the-art facility. An IGO physician is always on call to take care of you and your baby. Scripps offers 24-hour anesthesia services by an anesthesiologist devoted to labor and delivery. Scripps Memorial is proud to be pursuing a designation as a Baby-Friendly facility and strives to provide familycentered care that emphasizes breastfeeding and family bonding. When needed, the neonatal intensive care unit at Scripps is a Rady Children’s Hospital satellite unit, fully staffed by nurses and neonatologists from Rady Children’s Hospital to provide the best possible care for your baby.

Screening is usually recommended beginning at the age of 50, but it may be recommended sooner if you have a family history of colon cancer. This is especially true if you have a relative who has been diagnosed with colon cancer before the age of 60. We are happy to discuss this important test with you and refer you to a board-certified gastroenterologist.

Ultrasound
IGO has several state-of-the-art ultrasound machines and highly trained sonographers to provide top quality ultrasound services. Pregnant women typically have an ultrasound performed at the first prenatal visit, around 12 week’s gestation, as part of their non-invasive prenatal screening and again at about 20 weeks to review the fetal anatomy. All ultrasounds are reviewed by our IGO physicians. Additional ultrasounds may be performed later in pregnancy to evaluate for fetal position and fetal size, amniotic fluid, and other indications. We have 3D ultrasound capabilities and have partnered with Mobile Baby to provide low-cost photos that are digitally transmitted to an email or text address so that patients may share the images with their family and friends.
Radiology
Mammography is an X-ray technique used to examine the breasts that helps doctors detect breast cancer at an early stage when treatment can be most effective. IGO Medical Group is a licensed mammography facility staffed by certified mammography technologists. Our screening mammograms are performed using Hologic 3D mammography technology and expertly read by radiologists specializing in breast imaging from the UCSD Radiology Department.

Laparoscopy
The first step in testing the woman is to discover whether or not she is ovulating (producing an egg) each month. This can be done in several ways by using a home ovulation test kit, ultrasound, or by simple blood tests in the physician's office. The results determine whether additional tests are needed. In many cases, it is also necessary to determine whether or not the fallopian tubes are open. This may be done with a special X‐ray examination (hysterosalpingogram) of the tubes. This test can show whether the tubes are open as well as define the shape of the uterus. The tubes can also be examined by laparoscopy, one of the most useful diagnostic tests for infertility. This technique permits the doctor to use a miniature light transmitting telescope called a laparoscope to look into the abdomen and inspect the female organs for disease.

Laparoscopic Surgery
Using these new techniques, some types of infertility may be permanently cured. These procedures are especially useful to correct conditions which cause the fallopian tubes to be blocked, displaced or scarred. The use of a surgical microscope to magnify the small tubes and tissues has greatly increased the success of this type of reconstructive procedure. In appropriate cases, this can be done through laparoscopic surgery, requiring no overnight hospitalization.
