Fun but workers spoil it for people

I often travel with my dad and had the opportunity to join tournaments in different states. One attribute of a great gaming place is the game and environment however even with Artifex great set up, I find the worker named "Kelly" very unprofessional. A couple of friends confided with me that he makes it that he is doing customers a favor. His poor attitude and the disrespect he shows the employees (even older customers) makes him the worse employee out of all the other stores that I had been going to. Kelly needs to stop using the words like "NO!" when asked a simple question such as "do you have any additional singles from the new Pokemon series?"

I've never seen such unprofessional behavior. Perhaps he was having a bad day, but I 've been there in several tournaments and after his attitude issue with me on day 1, I paid attention to his dealings with customers.

Alas, the balls have not dropped.

Okay, so there's been a lot of positive feedback here for Artifex, and a lot of great responses for one Kelly, who, according so the supposed "Mark-Yugioh-World" is a bad employee. Now, his improper use of grammar and the English language aside. Why young Mark, why? Perhaps, at your middle school, where braces are still attractive on 13 year old girls, and NRB's (oh you know what I'm talking about) occur at an abounding rate, hence the first two letters standing for "No Reason" (I'll let you fill in the rest) I think somewhere in that rage of hormonal imbalances, the Devil, with his dirty hands, guided you to Artifex comics one day with, of all people, your father. The store is a place of angels, but you and your father brought your Demonry inside. (This Demonry could be in part that your Dad is playing in these tournaments too? I'm not sure...if he never lets you win, it's Demonry.) But I digress. In your fit of unruliness, the Devil forced words out of your mouth I'm sure you don't remember speaking. You have written, "do you have any additional singles from the new Pokemon series?" But I disbelieve your claims child. I think 'twould be more accurate to say the words spake by thou were along the lines as following; "Sniveling boy! Fetch me my scythe, for the souls of young Pokemon card players belong to me, and only you know that this scythe of mine can take their everlasting spirits and throw them into the powers of my pikachu! And by the by cretin, dost thou have, perchance, any additional singles for the new Pokemon series?" TO WHICH the faithful and dutiful employee, Kelly, responded to your demonic request the only way he could, a plain and simple "No." LACKING! the exclamation point you so placed, COINCIDENTALLY, next to your writing of his response. You are WRONG good sir! 'Twas the Devil speaking and not you! Now is your time to write another response to ask forgiveness from the powers that be. Artifex will always stand, but you, in the throws of pre-pubescent psychosis, allowed yourself to succumb to the devil, better known to the ancients as pachemekonin, more well known today as, you guessed it dearest, POKEMON! Pokemon has possessed you. I think you would have had some wits about you dear lad, were you a bit older, and a wee more in tune with your hormonal balances, but, Alas! The balls have not dropped.

Do you know what happens every time you say a bad thing about people young Mark-Yugioh-World? Seventy nine baby Pichu's all over the world drop DEAD. And one evee.

Amazing

My friends and I have been coming here for a few months now and its great. There is plenty of space for playing games and quite a few regulars who are more than willing to play a pick up game at any time. There is always lots of great product in stock and the staff is super helpful and knowledgeable. Especially Kelly. He treats you like your a regular even if it is your first time there. He jokes around a bit, but is always nice. Except for that time when he seduced The Most Interesting Man in the World only to turn him down. That was just odd. Oh, and that time he trained the stingray that killed Steve Irwin, but other than that, he is a pretty cool guy.

Great Atmosphere Every Time

I frequent Artifex just about every single Saturday and everytime i go there, it is always a blast! From the people you meet to the hobbies you can enjoy, this place has it all! The employees are are all great and the one that stands out the most would be Kelly. Very knowledgeable about all the products and will help you in any way he can. Don't be put off by his personality, he's really trying connect with customers on a more personal basis. Its his way of building customer relations. The overall atmosphere on saturdays when a lot of the gaming and tournaments happen is just a fun atmosphere in due part of the customers and the staff. The regulars there bring a lot of life and excitement and as you'd expect, they're hard to miss. Many of them are as helpful as the staff at Artifex and wouldn't mind helping you out say if you need pointers with your deck of cards. All in all, a great place to be!

a great store for all

I have been going to Artifex for almost 4 years now and love the store. They have the best selection and prices of Magic and other TCGs and their comic subscription program/discount is the best in San Diego. As for the staff at Artifex, they are both friendly and knowledgeable in every aspect of the shop. Kelly, Lauric, and Dan would all go above and beyond to help you in any way during your time there. As for Kelly, I would have to disagree 100% with Mark. Kelly is fun and adds an atmosphere to the shop that others just lack. His knowledge of comics and willingness to share it with you is something you can't find at some other shops, even if most of the time is spent trying to get you to read Invincible (he's right though it is amazing!) So keep up the good work Artifex, and I'll be there next week for my subscriptions!

Great Store Made Better by Employees

Artifex is a great comic book store! The employees are all very knowledgeable about the products and will point you in the right direction. As for Bad Grammer McGee down there, Kelly is a very professional, responsible and amiable employee. He always treats other employees and customers with respect and is willing to help whoever needs it. I completely agree with Little D2. There are often 150+ participants in new releases, tournaments and such, so there must be a sense of order. And if there were no "additional singles from the new Pokemon series," what else is he supposed to tell you? If they were out, they were out. Sorry kiddo. Don't just go around posting erroneous and slanderous statements about employees just because they didn't have the product/answers you wanted.

Great Atmosphere, Knowledgeable Employees

This place is a perfect example of what you want from a local Comic shop. It has a huge selection of comics across all the publishers, as well as walls full of trades. They have any kind of TCG available you could want, and all the employees are friendly and knowledgeable about them. This place has a great family feel. It's a place you can go to really get immersed in your local gamer community. It's a haven for Card gamers, Pen and paper roleplayers, comic book geeks, Miniature war gamers, and even budding artists. It's great to hang out with local employees like Kelly. This guy knows his stuff, and is awesome for discussions on new comic storylines, and upcoming movies. Full marks to all, and you'll see me every Wednesday for my pull.

A lot of comics shops in San D...

A lot of comics shops in San Diego had a problem staying in one place, and some just staying open, but Artifex is one that says with you. The people there are good about helping you find what you want, and turn you on to some great finds you may not have heard of or known about.

Kelly for one, is a guy that will get you what you want and tells you alot about some comics you should read. Invincible is one that, that he turned me on to, and i've never looked back. He can be loud, but you need to sometimes there, since they also host trading card game nights, and tournaments. And yes, kids are loud, some adults are loud, so you need to get over them in volume. That just happens. If that offends you, you need to get out more. And raise you own damn voice, to see how it feels.

Generally, its all about enjoying what you like there at Artifex and talking with people who also are into the same stuff as you. And while you can't please everybody, the ones you can't just aren't cool.
