ArthritisAdiation. “Cold” laser has been studied and recommended for use in rehabilitation because there is evidence that this form of LASER may be biostimulative and facilitate healing. It has been shown that “cold” laser can initiate reactions at the cell membrane, therefore helping to stimulate the healing process at the cellular level. It has also been shown that this type of laser has been able to increase rates of nerve conduction, and accelerate nerve regeneration. LASER is also used at times to cause vasodilatation, there for reducing swelling in the area of the body being treated. It has also been shown to help reduce pain and dysfunction in many types of musculoskeletal disorders such as arthritis, Lateral epicondylitis(Tennis elbow), low back and neck pain, Osteoarthritis, and Rheumatoid arthritis.
Pediatric CareStrain-Counterstrain: A passive postional procedure that places the body in a position of greatest comfort, thereby relieving pain by reduction and arrest of inappropriate proprioceptor activity that maintains somatic dysfunction. It can assist in the treatment of acute and chronic pain, post-op pain, and neurological pain. It can be safely used on all age groups and populations including pediatrics, pregnancy, and geriatrics. It is used in conjuction with myofascial release, exercise, modalities, and manual therapy.
IontophoresisThis modality is a transdermal drug delivery that uses low voltage DC current to move charged ions across the dermal layer. This modality is a non-invasive method for delivering medications through the skin.
UltrasoundUltrasound: This type of Ultrasound is therapeutic in nature that uses sound waves to produce thermal and non-thermal effects in the body. This effect is achieved by a machine that applies a high frequency AC current to a crystal inside the ultrasound head. This in turn causes the crystal to expand and contract which produces an ultrasound wave. Depending on the frequency the ultrasound is set at, it can target both superficial and deep tissues. Ultrasound has various effects on the body including acceleration of metabolic rate, reduction or control of pain and muscle spasm, alteration of nerve conduction velocity, increasing circulation, increasing soft tissue extensibility, and stimulating wound healing.
SciaticaAuto Traction: A treatment that utilizes three-dimensional positioning, passive and active “traction”, dynamic remodeling of position, and gradual loading to reduce or resolve lumbar and “sciatica” symptoms, restore active lumbar movements, and resolve postural deviations. Auto-traction can also be utilized to create specific biomechanical effects. This traction is used in an integrated form and has been shown to be quite compatible with a wide variety of manual therapy and other treatment systems. This traction can be used to treat conditions such as an acute or chronic herniated disc, acute “locked” back syndrome, Lumbago/Sciatica, Lumbar dysfunction, Osteoarthritis, Lumbar derangement, and Facet joint syndrome.
LesionsCombination therapy involving the simultaneous application of ultrasound with an electrical stimulation therapy. This combination treatment allows for increased accuracy and effectiveness in treating deeper lesions, and for treating trigger points. This modality also appears to give rise to less adverse treatment effects that are associated with US or electrical stimulation only.
Sports MedicineAttended UT Health Science Center where he became a licensed paramedic and completed his Pre-Med education. He later attended San Antonio College and received his RN. Ken has 12 years experience as an RN in physical medicine & rehabilitation marketing, and as a liaison. He specialized in orthopedics, geriatrics, & and sports medicine.
Manual TherapyManual Therapy: Using an osteopathic approach that emphasizes the interrelationships between structure and function of the body through the use of manual and manipulative therapy. In conjuction with the osteopathic approach, Norwegian and Australian mobilization techniques, New Zeland mobilization with movement approaches, and myofascial release, and various specific chriopractic techniques are utilzed as well
